Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kyle Sweeney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Starr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kyle Sweeney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Starr!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Kavanagh and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sweeney gets caught flat footed, as Starr shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Starr trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Starr postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Sweeney is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Sweeney on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sweeney tries to get out of the position.

Sweeney is looking for a triangle here but Starr uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Starr has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
No joy there for Starr, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nice sprawl there from Sweeney as Starr shoots in.

Sweeney closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sweeney lands in his opponent's guard.

Starr is trying to hold Sweeney in close to prevent damage but Sweeney has managed to pass into half guard.

Sweeney is looking for a kimura but Starr is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sweeney to get the leverage.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Sweeney is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Starr is just riding it out for now. Sweeney eventually gives up the hold.

Starr really wants to buck Sweeney off and get back to his feet.

Sweeney prevents Starr from getting the reversal.
Sweeney looking to control and managing it successfully.
Starr is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sweeney landing punches.
Starr is looking to improve his position but Sweeney isn't that keen on the idea.
Starr is squirming around, avoiding Sweeney's attempts to control the action.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sweeney has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Starr's face.

Sweeney jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Starr manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Starr is looking to regain half guard here but Sweeney keeps moving and retains side control.
Starr manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Sweeney is staying active underneath Starr, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kyle Sweeney will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Sweeney shoots in and bounces Starr off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Starr is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sweeney wants to control from the top but Starr keeps moving.
Starr wants to sweep but no luck.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sweeney is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Starr tries to clinch up but Sweeney circles away and keeps his distance.
Sweeney misses with a takedown attempt - Starr sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Starr wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Sweeney pulls Starr into guard.
Starr trying to control the position from guard on top but Sweeney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Sweeney wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Starr is now in half guard.
Sweeney is looking for a sweep. Starr is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Starr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sweeney keeps working.
Sweeney is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Sweeney is trying to control but can't.
Sweeney tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Starr has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Sweeney is squirming around, avoiding Starr's attempts to control the action.
Sweeney tries to hold on but Starr pushes him away.
Sweeney is desperately trying to improve his position but Starr has a good base and remains in mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sweeney tries to lock up and control but Starr gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Starr misses with a head shot.
Sweeney can't escape the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Starr breaks from Sweeney's wrist control and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kyle Sweeney dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Starr tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sweeney wants to clinch.
A punch combination from Starr misses.
Starr looks to clinch

and Sweeney counters with a shoot takedown. Starr fights it but they end up in guard.
Starr keeping moving, preventing Sweeney from controlling successfully.
Starr wants to sweep but no luck.

Sweeney stands and steps away. Starr gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

so Sweeney counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Sweeney advances position into side control!
Starr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Starr is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Sweeney landing a few strikes.
Starr is looking to reverse the position.
Sweeney trying to control the position but Starr is working away.

Sweeney goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Starr rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Sweeney's guard! Nice work there by Starr!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Sweeney has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Starr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Starr accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Starr controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Starr with a flurry of punches that miss.

Sweeney scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Starr avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Starr misses with a two punch combination.
Sweeney tries to clinch but Starr is having none of it.
Mike Starr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sweeney instigates a clinch.
Starr stalling in the clinch but Sweeney improves position.
Starr can't break the clinch.
Starr is trying to break the clinch but Sweeney has him pressed against the cage.
Starr is working for takedown but Sweeney is calmly controlling the position for now.

Sweeney decides to pull guard.
Sweeney keeping moving, preventing Starr from controlling successfully.
Sweeney wants to get back to his feet but Starr is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Sweeney looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Sweeney is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sweeney shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Mike Starr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
