PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Chase (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charles Babbage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chase comes into the arena with All the Above - Maino blaring out of the sound system. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Chase!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Charles Babbage!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Chase.
Babbage scores with a punch to the head.
Chase shoots in looking for a takedown. Babbage tries to sprawl out of it but Chase keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Babbage manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Chase looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Babbage moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chase won't allow Babbage to get back to his feet.
Babbage looking for a sweep. Not yet Babbage, not yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Chase drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Babbage dives on top into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chase is breathing heavily.
Babbage looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Babbage preventing the sweep.

Chase throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Babbage escapes and throws Chase's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Babbage gets to mount! Chase was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Babbage controlling from the full mount.

Babbage is standing up, even though he is in mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Babbage fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A slapping leg kick lands for Babbage.
Chase moves in looking to clinch but Babbage pushes him off.
Charles Babbage is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Nice sprawl there from Babbage as Chase shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Chase. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A big head kick from Babbage and Chase is sent sprawling to the canvas!


Chase is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Babbage is stalling in the full guard.
Chase wants to sweep here but Babbage controlling him for the moment.

Chase is looking for a triangle here but Babbage uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Chase is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Chase is trying to escape the position but Babbage is controlling the position.
Chase is looking for a sweep.
Chase is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Babbage is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Chase has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Chase is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
I would not like to be Chase right now.

Babbage tightening his grip on Chase, looking for the choke.
Babbage connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Chase to escape the position.
Chase is in bad spot here.
Chase is working hard here to advance position.
What can Chase do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Babbage doesn't have the hooks in and Chase manages to turn into his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charles Babbage dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Chase tries for a takedown but Babbage sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Chase shoots for a double leg takedown but Babbage sprawls well. He's pushed Chase's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Babbage throws out a powerful jab.
Babbage scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Chase shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Chase. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chase stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Babbage.
Babbage throws a series of strikes that have Chase backpedaling.
Chase shoots in but no luck this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chase shoots in for a double leg but Babbage sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
It's a brutal combination of punches from Babbage! Chase is backing up but he can't get away as Babbage lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Chase and ends the fight. Great knockout.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Charles Babbage!
