The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Armis gets a double leg takedown into King's guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. King keeping full guard, as Armis tries to pass. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Armis drops back looking for a leg! King is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and King manages to kick Armis off! Armis jumps back into King's guard. Armis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. King pulls Armis in close to prevent any damage. Armis tries to free his leg and advance position but King is retaining full guard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Armis passes easily into side control. Nice work. You can see the frustration on King's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if King can do anything to dispel that myth. Armis is trying to land an Americana. The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from King, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Eli Armis! Eli Armis is the new featherweight champion! Eli Armis decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
