Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
23 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vadim Kharghai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
15 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pluto Palhares!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palhares connects with a leg kick. Kharghai looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Palhares cracks the inside of Kharghai's front leg.
Pluto Palhares seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Palhares thuds a left hand into Kharghai's body.
Palhares clobbers Kharghai with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Palhares lands with a kick to the temple. Kharghai shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Palhares throws a nice outside leg kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kharghai swings for the body but Palhares moves out of range.
Palhares tries to sprawl but Kharghai drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Palhares manages to get to full guard.
Palhares controlling the position.
Kharghai has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Palhares to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Kharghai is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Palhares pulls down on the head and he's put Kharghai to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Pluto Palhares!
A relieved looking Pluto Palhares thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
