PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paul Meyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clayson McCarthy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Meyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Clayson McCarthy!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCarthy stuffs the takedown attempt from Meyer. Meyer gets slowly back to his feet.
McCarthy tests Meyer's chin there with a solid looking shot.
McCarthy fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from McCarthy. No joy for Meyer on that attempt.
Meyer moves out of range of the strikes.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Meyer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Meyer dives in and grabs McCarthy's left leg, looking for a takedown. McCarthy pushes down on Meyer's head and hops out.
McCarthy misses with a wild body shot.
McCarthy swings for the body but Meyer moves out of range.
McCarthy is looking to clinch but Meyer is avoiding it.
Meyer throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

McCarthy dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Meyer tries to score a power double leg takedown but McCarthy sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Meyer somewhat.

McCarthy misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The fighters circle momentarily. McCarthy darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Meyer on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
McCarthy jabs Meyer right on the nose. Meyer blinks but takes it well.

Meyer fails to land the takedown.
McCarthy connects with a right hand. Meyer shakes it off.
Meyer shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
McCarthy ducks under a wild hook from Meyer.
Meyer shoots in for a takedown but McCarthy shows good takedown defense.
Meyer changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McCarthy tries to avoid it but Meyer manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McCarthy to the ground. McCarthy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Meyer doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Meyer swats away the attempt to clinch by McCarthy.
McCarthy tries to close the distance and clinch up but Meyer swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nice sprawl there from McCarthy as Meyer shoots in.
McCarthy fails with an attempt to clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Paul Meyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Meyer shoots in looking for a takedown but McCarthy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Meyer's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
McCarthy thows a body shot but no joy.

Meyer looking to score a takedown here. McCarthy is defending well but Meyer drives through and ends up in McCarthy's guard.
McCarthy wants to get back to his feet but Meyer is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
McCarthy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Meyer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

McCarthy is looking to stand up but Meyer isn't so interested in that idea.
Meyer lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Meyer postures up in McCarthy's guard and throws a big left but McCarthy blocks it.
Meyer tries to free his leg and advance position but McCarthy is retaining full guard.
Meyer passes McCarthy's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Meyer throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
McCarthy is controlling Meyer's trapped leg to prevent Meyer from advancing to side control.
McCarthy is staying active underneath Meyer, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Meyer looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
McCarthy is looking for a sweep. Meyer is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Meyer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
McCarthy is looking to improve his position.
Meyer wants to take a breather but McCarthy is having none of it.
McCarthy wants to control but Meyer is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Meyer closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. McCarthy did well to prevent Meyer getting side control.

McCarthy defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Meyer.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Meyer lands a nice shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Paul Meyer will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

McCarthy tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Meyer manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Meyer tries to score a power double leg takedown but McCarthy sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Meyer somewhat.

McCarthy lands an elbow that stopped Meyer in his tracks for a moment.
McCarthy stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

A nice glancing elbow lands by McCarthy.
McCarthy makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Meyer wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

McCarthy lands a left hand that snaps the head of Meyer backwards.

Meyer turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
McCarthy is trying to get back to half guard.
Meyer lands a decent elbow from side control.
Meyer working the head and body with strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Meyer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Meyer scores with a couple of short elbows.


McCarthy is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Meyer is working to tighten is grip on McCarthy's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. McCarthy has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Meyer is really squeezing tight and eventually McCarthy passes out! Meyer breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Paul Meyer!
