Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
15 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leonidas Katsaros!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Thompson!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Katsaros feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Thompson's calf.
Katsaros with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Katsaros misses the shot to the body.
Thompson tries to clinch but Katsaros is having none of it.
Katsaros gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Thompson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Katsaros.
A head kick misses from Katsaros.
Thompson on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Good work by Thompson as he checks the leg kick.
Thompson misses with a double jab.
That kick from Katsaros tenderised Thompson's leg. Thompson is trying to keep his angry face on.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A punch combination from Katsaros misses.
Katsaros throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Katsaros jabs Thompson right on the nose. Thompson blinks but takes it well.
Katsaros gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Thompson to score an easy takedown into full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Katsaros is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Katsaros is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Katsaros pulls Thompson in close to his closed guard and prevents Thompson from doing any damage or advancing position.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Leonidas Katsaros just wasn't active enough.
Thompson motions for Katsaros to come forward. Thompson throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Thompson attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Thompson.
Katsaros feints and then cracks Thompson's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Thompson down.
Thompson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Thompson thows a leg kick but Katsaros checks it
and Katsaros counters with a thumping low kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Katsaros keeps Thompson at a distance using the push kick.
Leonidas Katsaros is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Thompson looks winded!
Katsaros fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Thompson has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Katsaros smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
It looks like John Thompson has been cut.
Katsaros ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Thompson takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Katsaros throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Katsaros dances in with a quick combination. Thompson is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Katsaros snaps Thompson's head back. Thompson stumbles backwards against the cage. Katsaros steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Thompson's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Thompson just didn't come prepared.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Leonidas Katsaros!
