Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gregg Valentine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Howlett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Valentine comes to the cage accompanied by Downtown Swinga 96 by MOP. Howlett is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Berserker. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 12 - 1, fighting out of New York, Gregg Valentine!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Howlett!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Jorge Garcia and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valentine bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Valentine throws a head kick that misses
and Howlett connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Howlett avoids the body shot from Valentine.
Valentine misses with a body shot.
Howlett scores with a hook.
Howlett tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Howlett is looking to chop away at Valentine's legs.
Valentine uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Howlett has time to react.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Howlett decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Valentine's guard.

Howlett is looking to work some ground and pound but Valentine has wrist control.

Valentine takes Howlett's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Howlett is in trouble.

Howlett is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Howlett shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Valentine as he jumps to the side.
Valentine throws a sloppy head kick and Howlett moves out of range easily.

Valentine stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Valentine wants it to stay on the feet.

and Howlett counters with a nice double leg into side control. Valentine won't be happy with that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Howlett has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Valentine utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Howlett is working Valentine over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Howlett wants to control from the top but Valentine keeps moving.
Howlett slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Howlett connects with a nice short shot to Valentine's temple.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Valentine is in a horrible position here. Howlett smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Howlett walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Howlett changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Valentine looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
