PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Adam Carolla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ike Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carolla comes into the arena with Gotta Get It On from Taboo 2 blaring out of the sound system. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 44 - 38 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adam Carolla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ike Turner!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Carolla misses.
Turner tries to bum rush Carolla with a series of wild strikes but Carolla uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Turner looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Carolla!
Turner is looking to take a break and control but Carolla is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Turner tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Turner throws an elbow but Carolla slips to the side and avoids it well.
We've been hearing good reports from Carolla's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Turner throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Turner tries to move into full mount but can't pass Carolla's legs.

Turner is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Carolla has escaped the position, nice work there.
An elbow from Turner crashes against the mat.

Turner with the ground and pound but Carolla regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Turner thows a huge punch but Carolla dodges it nicely.
Turner seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carolla does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Turner wants to pass the guard but Carolla is defending well.
Turner wants to take a breather but Carolla is having none of it.

Turner thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Carolla's head.
Turner wants to free his trapped foot but Carolla is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Turner wants to lay and pray for a moment but Carolla keeps working.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ike Turner wasn't active enough on the ground.
Turner just misses with a punch to the body.

Carolla misses with a body shot.
Carolla scores with a hook.
Turner closes the distance and clinches up with Carolla, looking for a takedown. Turner pushes Carolla against the cage but Carolla circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Turner closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Turner prevents Carolla from improving his position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Carolla is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ike Turner dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Turner shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Carolla defends it nicely.
Carolla misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Turner shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carolla pinned against the cage. Carolla gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Turner ducks under a wild hook from Carolla.

Turner keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Carolla.
Turner moves forwards but Carolla connects with a nice, crisp jab.


It looks like Ike Turner has been cut.
Carolla is looking to land body kicks.
Turner throws a quick inside leg kick.
Carolla lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Turner moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Turner has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Turner changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carolla tries to avoid it but Turner manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carolla to the ground. Carolla escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Adam Carolla has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ike Turner.
Carolla leaves Turner with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Turner throws a solid leg kick but Carolla takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Turner.

Carolla defending well as Turner loads up on a big left hand.
Carolla connects with a good right hand that stumbles Turner. Turner circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Turner doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

and Turner counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Carolla!
Turner throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Carolla works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Ike Turner has got the better of the ground game so far.
Carolla is not content to let Turner control the position.

Turner throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Carolla is staying active underneath Turner, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ike Turner.
Turner fails to land the takedown.

Turner looking to score a takedown here. Carolla is defending well but Turner drives through and ends up in Carolla's guard.

Turner trying to control the position from guard on top but Carolla is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Turner throws a strike but Carolla rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Carolla wants to control from the top but Turner keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Adam Carolla will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Ike Turner's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Turner scores with a jab. Carolla acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Carolla swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Turner will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Carolla uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Turner.
Carolla throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Carolla moves into range and clinches up with Turner.
A frustrated look appears on Carolla's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Carolla blocks an uppercut.

Turner breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Carolla has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Turner.
Carolla on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Adam Carolla is winning the standup battle so far.
Turner thumps Carolla with a low kick.
Carolla throws a hook but Turner avoids it easily.
Turner shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Carolla defends it nicely.
Ike Turner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carolla throws an overhand right that lands on Turner's shoulder, as Turner tries to avoid the shot.
Carolla leaves Turner with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Carolla is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Turner looks to throw the jab but Carolla is out of range.
Carolla is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Carolla swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Turner counters with a leg kick.
Turner goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Carolla is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Carolla swings for the body but Turner moves out of range.
Turner scores with a kick to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Turner takes one on the button.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Turner.
Adam Carolla has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ike Turner.
Carolla connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Turner momentarily.

Turner loads up on a big right hand but Carolla slips the punch.

Turner walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Carolla checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
No luck for Carolla with that takedown attempt.

Carolla misses with the combination.
Good work by Carolla as he checks the leg kick.
Turner stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Carolla.

Turner is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Carolla's half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Adam Carolla.
I think Carolla has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
