Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pluto Palhares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Valentine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palhares comes to the cage accompanied by TOQUINHO. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
34 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pluto Palhares! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
41 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexander Valentine! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Ackerman and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Valentine throws a big shot that misses. Palhares closes the distance and clinches up with Valentine, looking for a takedown. Palhares pushes Valentine against the cage but Valentine circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Valentine ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Palhares crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Valentine - the referee stops the clock and Palhares gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Valentine. Palhares manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Pluto Palhares seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Valentine lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Valentine throws out a token jab with nothing on it. A punch combination from Palhares misses. Palhares tries a low kick but Valentine avoids it. Palhares lands with a good body shot. Valentine has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. A head kick from Palhares lands but Valentine takes it in his stride. Valentine takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Palhares throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Palhares tries to land a leg kick but Valentine saw it coming and moves away.

A slow jab from Palhares misses its intended target. Palhares lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Palhares keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Valentine. Valentine looks to score with a jab to the body but Palhares is just out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Valentine lands a glancing blow to the side of Palhares's head. A big right from Valentine misses. Jab, jab by Palhares - just one landing. Valentine connects with a leg kick. Palhares looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Palhares turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Palhares throws a half hearted mid kick. Palhares takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Some wild striking there from Palhares.
A jab from Palhares does it's job there. Valentine goes for a high kick. It partially lands. This has been an exciting period of action! Palhares throws a front kick aimed at Valentine's knee but Valentine avoids it well. A looping hook to the body misses from Palhares. Valentine does a little dance to reset his feet. Valentine misses with a straight left. A jab from Valentine misses. Valentine tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Palhares was well out of range. Poor timing from Valentine.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Valentine takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Valentine moves out of range as Palhares strikes. Palhares walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Valentine misses with a hook. Palhares ducked under it nicely. Nice sprawl there from Valentine as Palhares shoots in. Valentine drops his hands momentarily and Palhares takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Palhares walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Palhares takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Valentine throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Palhares stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Palhares lands a leg kick that knocks Valentine off balance momentarily. A clash of legs there as Palhares blocks the low kick. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Valentine throws a hook but Palhares avoids it easily. Valentine misses with a wild body shot. Good shot there by Palhares. Palhares misses with a body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Alexander Valentine will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Palhares throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Valentine's head. Alexander Valentine seems to be getting the better of the standup. Valentine just misses with a punch to the body.
A cross from Valentine lands. Valentine gets the takedown into side control. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Valentine working away. Palhares sneaks back into half guard. Palhares is looking to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Palhares is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Valentine's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Valentine's back! Valentine is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Palhares seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. I really don't envy Valentine right now.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Will Palhares go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Valentine's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Palhares connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Valentine scrambles back to his feet. It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Palhares here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. A shot to the liver by Valentine. Beautiful body shot. Palhares scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Valentine fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Palhares on the side of the head. Valentine's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Palhares ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Palhares is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Valentine's half guard. Valentine is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Palhares looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Palhares lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Palhares looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Valentine trying to control here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Valentine is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Palhares is staying active. Valentine looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Valentine is looking for a sweep. Palhares is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Palhares with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Valentine tries to roll over but Palhares keeps him under control. Valentine trying to hold on to Palhares's head to control him but Palhares postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Nice uppercut lands for Palhares. That snapped Valentine's head back.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Valentine winds up and cracks Palhares with a swinging punch to the side of the head. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Valentine throwing shots but Palhares is blocking nicely. Valentine throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Valentine prevents Palhares from improving his position. That's three minutes gone in the round. Palhares trying to control from Valentine's half guard. Valentine has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Palhares trying to control but Valentine is working from the bottom. Valentine is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Palhares is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Palhares manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Valentine in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Valentine cracks Palhares with a solid left hand. Valentine lands a couple of elbows. Palhares is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Valentine won't allow Palhares to sweep him here. Valentine is looking to work some ground and pound but Palhares has wrist control.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Alexander Valentine. I think Valentine has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
