Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jon Hess! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Svend Karlsson! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jonathan Paton and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hess lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Karlsson looks to score with a jab to the body but Hess is just out of range. Karlsson is looking to clinch but Hess is avoiding it.
Karlsson throws a body punch but Hess moves out of range. Karlsson fails in his attempt to clinch. A jab lands there for Karlsson. Hess slips a jab from Karlsson. Karlsson tries to close the distance and clinch but Hess swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Karlsson is looking to clinch but Hess is avoiding it.
Hess motions for Karlsson to come forward. Hess throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Karlsson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hess does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. We've been told by Hess's head coaches at In the Penile Colony that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Jab, jab by Hess - just one landing. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Karlsson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Hess tries to work over Karlsson's front leg with a kick but Karlsson checks it.
That's one minute gone in the round. No joy there for Karlsson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Karlsson misses with a wild body shot. Karlsson thows a left - swing and a miss! Karlsson lands a jab to the head.
Karlsson misses with a double jab
and Hess counters with a thumping low kick. Karlsson throws a shot to the body.
Karlsson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hess fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Karlsson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Karlsson is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Hess rather than just go for the knockout. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Karlsson. Hess keeps Karlsson at a distance using the push kick. Karlsson looks winded! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hess throws a low kick but Karlsson avoids it. Karlsson moves out of range of the leg kick from Hess.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hess looks to score with a jab to the body but Karlsson is just out of range. Karlsson throws a predictable looking body shot
and Hess counters with a body kick. Hess comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Hess cracks Karlsson with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Karlsson looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Hess finish him?
It looks like Svend Karlsson has been cut. Karlsson swings for the body but Hess moves out of range.
Hess leaves Karlsson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Hess thuds his shin into the meat of Karlsson's side. Karlsson takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Svend Karlsson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A solid body kick from Hess. Hess jabs at Karlsson's body. Hess cracks Karlsson with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Karlsson looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Hess finish him?
Look low, kick high! Hess uses the oldest trick in the book to send Karlsson tumbling to the canvas, in a truly brutal knockout! Hess is absolutely delighted - when Karlsson wakes up, I doubt he'll be quite so happy!
