PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kabuto Wakizashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rauta Naama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Naama has chosen Bulls On Parade as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kabuto Wakizashi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Rauta Naama!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wakizashi stuns Naama with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Wakizashi takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Naama on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Naama walks forward, straight into a front kick from Wakizashi.

Naama pushes Wakizashi up against the ropes in a clinch.
Wakizashi tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Naama's elbow.
Wakizashi keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Naama's efforts to push away.
Naama tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Wakizashi avoids it.

Naama pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Naama keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Wakizashi.
Wakizashi throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Naama on the side of the head.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Wakizashi.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Naama takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.


It looks like Rauta Naama has been cut.
Wakizashi tries to clinch but Naama moves out of range.
Wakizashi finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Naama uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Wakizashi throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Naama stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Naama avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Wakizashi has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Naama checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Wakizashi closes the distance and clinches.

Naama ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Naama no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Naama is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Naama is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Wakizashi is aware though and is defending well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Naama is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Naama has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Wakizashi is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Naama.

Naama tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wakizashi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Naama just misses with a punch to the body.
Wakizashi lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Naama circles away quickly and effectively.

Kabuto Wakizashi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wakizashi throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Naama is working for a submission of some sort.
Wakizashi is pressing down on Naama's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Naama working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Wakizashi is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Naama wants to pass the guard but Wakizashi is keeping the position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Wakizashi has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Kabuto Wakizashi just wasn't active enough.

Wakizashi throws a solid leg kick but Naama takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Wakizashi.
Naama scores with a sloppy right hand. Wakizashi should have avoided that one.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Wakizashi lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Naama has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Naama and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Wakizashi thuds his shin into the meat of Naama's side.
Naama takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Naama tries to clinch there but Wakizashi circles away.
Naama misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A lazy left from Wakizashi finds it's target.
Kabuto Wakizashi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Naama blocks a low kick nicely.
Naama takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Naama is working for takedown but Wakizashi is calmly controlling the position for now.
Kabuto Wakizashi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rauta Naama.

Naama looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Wakizashi makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Wakizashi tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Naama tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Wakizashi breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Naama scores with a hook.
Wakizashi connects with a nice looking jab.
Wakizashi leaves Naama with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Wakizashi keeps Naama at a distance using the push kick.
Naama takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Naama takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Rauta Naama has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wakizashi throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Naama's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kabuto Wakizashi showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wakizashi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Kabuto Wakizashi made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
