Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tommy Gavin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bogie McGill! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Chad Campbell and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gavin tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and McGill is able to avoid easily. Gavin just misses with a punch to the body.
Gavin looks to score with a jab to the body but McGill is just out of range. McGill tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. McGill tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. A chopping leg kick lands by Gavin. McGill uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gavin. A nice inside leg kick there by Gavin. That's going to slow McGill down. Gavin connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Gavin misses with a low kick. Gavin throws a leg kick which misses McGill's front leg but catches the back leg as McGill tries to avoid it. Nice takedown defense from Gavin. No joy for McGill on that attempt. Gavin misses with a body shot.
Gavin comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. McGill fails with the takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGill tries to clinch but Gavin is having none of it. Gavin misses with a body punch
and McGill counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Gavin misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McGill.
Gavin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
McGill tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Gavin defends well and McGill ends up having to push Gavin into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Tommy Gavin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bogie McGill. McGill unloads a knee to the mid-section. Gavin blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. McGill obliges. Still in the clinch, McGill scores with a nice short uppercut. A nice right hand lands inside from Gavin. McGill looking to slow down the pace here. A nice glancing elbow lands by McGill. McGill unloads a knee to the mid-section. Gavin lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Gavin is fighting off a takedown attempt but McGill is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gavin to the mat. Gavin regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gavin keeping moving, preventing McGill from controlling successfully. Gavin is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! McGill has his hands clasped together but Gavin extends and breaks McGill's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Gavin.
