Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joe Ranieri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Voorhees (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Ranieri might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to DMX - Lord give me a Sign. Jason Voorhees is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Ranieri!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Voorhees!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, David Schapiro and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Voorhees swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A nice inside leg kick there by Voorhees. That's going to slow Ranieri down.
A leg kick checked by Ranieri.
Voorhees misses with a straight left.
Ranieri plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Ranieri misses with a series of wild punches.
Voorhees throws a jab but it's blocked by Ranieri.
Ranieri throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A lazy left from Ranieri finds it's target.
Voorhees swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Ranieri.
Voorhees missing with a left hand there. Ranieri was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
An inside leg kick from Voorhees misses.
Ranieri throws a right and a left that Voorhees avoids nicely.

Ranieri tries to keep at a distance but Voorhees has taken the fight into the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ranieri jumps guard but Voorhees stands there with Ranieri around his waist. Ranieri gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Voorhees lands with a right to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Voorhees tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Ranieri blocking some punches.
I was talking to Ranieri's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Ranieri misses with some punches.
Voorhees scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Voorhees lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Ranieri tries to stall but Voorhees uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
A hook to the body from Voorhees.
Ranieri using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Voorhees has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Voorhees misses with a punch to the body.
A nice right hand lands inside from Voorhees.
Voorhees throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Ranieri tries to pull guard but Voorhees forces him back to his feet, against the ropes.
Voorhees lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Ranieri backwards.
Voorhees lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Voorhees misses with the head strike.
Ranieri fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Ranieri. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ranieri throws a knee to the head but misses.
Voorhees swings wildly with an uppercut but Ranieri uses good head movement to avoid it.
Voorhees will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Ranieri up against the ropes.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Voorhees working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Ranieri fails to pull guard.
Voorhees lands a left hand that snaps the head of Ranieri backwards.
Ranieri jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Voorhees walks away with a smile on his face. Ranieri gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Ranieri steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Voorhees.
Ranieri is looking for a counter combo.
Voorhees waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ranieri.
Ranieri is looking to chop away at Voorhees's legs.
Ranieri throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Voorhees lands with an uppercut that bounces Ranieri off the ropes and back into range.
Voorhees feints and then cracks Ranieri's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Ranieri down.
A chopping leg kick lands by Voorhees.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Voorhees throws a quick inside leg kick.
Voorhees plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Ranieri uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Voorhees.
As Voorhees looks to move away, Ranieri throws a big counter combo bu Voorhees just gets out of the way.
Voorhees throws a leg kick but Ranieri sees it coming and moves out of range.
A right-left combo lands from Ranieri.
Voorhees cracks Ranieri with a good jab.
Ranieri throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Voorhees clinches.
Voorhees lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Voorhees works on Ranieri's body with a couple of short punches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ranieri pulls Voorhees into guard.

Voorhees got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ranieri has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Voorhees has managed to get both his arms back between Ranieri's legs - danger averted.

Ranieri has his foot on Voorhees's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Voorhees works his way back into a safe position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Ranieri is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Voorhees has his hands clasped together but Ranieri extends and breaks Voorhees's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Ranieri.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joe Ranieri!
After the fight, Joe Ranieri was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
