Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vasili Komaroff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gio Avila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Komaroff kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Here's To Us. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vasili Komaroff! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gio Avila! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Komaroff tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Avila cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Avila on the wrong end of a nice jab. Komaroff changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Komaroff moves into range and clinches up with Avila. Komaroff successfully pulls guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Avila drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Komaroff dives on top into guard. Komaroff looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Avila tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avila is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Avila looking for a guillotine here but Komaroff defends easily.
Komaroff sitting in guard, not really doing much. Komaroff continues to stall.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Avila is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Komaroff defends well. Avila throws his legs up looking for a submission but Komaroff uses it to pass to side control.
Komaroff is staying tight to Avila's torso, preventing him from escaping. Avila is trying to get back to half guard. Avila is letting Komaroff control him for a moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Avila is looking for a sweep. Avila is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Komaroff's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Komaroff controlling the pace. Avila looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Komaroff moves nicely into side control. Avila tries to bench press Komaroff off him but Komaroff keeps the position. Komaroff is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Avila's shoulder. That is not cool. Avila tries to improve position but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Komaroff content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Avila tries to bench press Komaroff off him but Komaroff keeps the position. Komaroff stands up and beckons Avila to his feet. Avila takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Komaroff misses with an uppercut
enabling Avila to counter with a crisp jab. Avila takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vasili Komaroff dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Komaroff wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Good shot there by Komaroff. Komaroff darts in and clinches Avila up against the cage. Komaroff has clasped his hands together around Avila's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Komaroff controls the position. Komaroff tries for a kimura but Avila is defending well. Komaroff just content to control the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Avila tries to buck Komaroff off but Komaroff is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avila manages to get back to half guard. Avila moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Komaroff controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Avila is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Komaroff seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Avila looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Komaroff passes into side control.
We've been hearing that Komaroff has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Komaroff has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Vasili Komaroff is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Komaroff scores with a crisp jab that stopped Avila in his tracks. Komaroff moves into the clinch. Komaroff drops down looking for an ankle pick but Avila pulls his leg out and moves away.
Komaroff fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Avila manages to avoid it. Komaroff takes a swing at Avila's ribcage but misses. Komaroff lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Avila at a distance.
Komaroff scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Vasili Komaroff is winning the standup battle so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Komaroff lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Komaroff is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Avila can do to turn this around? Komaroff tries to clinch but Avila is having none of it. Nice shot lands for Komaroff. Avila slips a straight right by Komaroff. Jab, jab by Komaroff - just one landing. Gio Avila is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Komaroff misses with a wild body shot. Avila throws out a counter right but Komaroff avoids it with no problem. A jab from Komaroff does it's job there. Komaroff moves in looking to clinch but Avila pushes him off. Komaroff doesn't manage to clinch there - Avila circles away.
Avila on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Avila is rocked! Komaroff clinches. Avila is still on wobbly legs! Can Komaroff finish him? Komaroff pulls Avila into guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Avila postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Komaroff is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Avila, into his guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Avila working for submissions but it's allowed Komaroff to get to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Komaroff seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Avila is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Vasili Komaroff! A relieved looking Vasili Komaroff thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
