Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shovel Knight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, George Ciz!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knight rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Ciz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Knight won't be happy with that.
Knight tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Knight has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Ciz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Knight has escaped the position, nice work there.
Knight is trying to control Ciz's posture but Ciz avoids it.
Ciz throwing shots but missing, from side control.
You can see the frustration on Knight's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Knight is not content to let Ciz control the position.
Ciz is trying to ground and pound but Knight uses the momentary lack of control by Ciz to regain half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Knight is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ciz is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Knight has managed to free his arm - good work.

Knight actively working from the bottom here.
Knight on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Ciz is looking to pass Knight's guard but actually Knight recovers to full guard.
Knight keeping moving, preventing Ciz from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ciz is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Knight is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Ciz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Knight has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ciz has managed to get both his arms back between Knight's legs - danger averted.

Knight pushes a forearm under Ciz's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Ciz is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Shovel Knight!
A very excited looking Shovel Knight made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
