Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shamil Abdulkhalikov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Keola Fatu! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, David Hoff and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fatu staying out of range there. Fatu looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Fatu misses with a hook
and Abdulkhalikov counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Fatu throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Abdulkhalikov connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Abdulkhalikov misses with a right hand and Fatu decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Abdulkhalikov's guard. Fatu landing some decent shots from guard. Fatu trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Abdulkhalikov has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Fatu missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Fatu throws a big right hand that misses. Fatu throws a big elbow that misses. Fatu wants to pass the guard but Abdulkhalikov is keeping the position. Fatu stays in close to Abdulkhalikov's body and controls the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Fatu accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Abdulkhalikov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fatu on the ground. Fatu content to stall in guard here. Fatu stops Abdulkhalikov from standing up. Fatu with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Fatu postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Fatu is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Fatu accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Fatu is pushing down on Abdulkhalikov's leg trying to pass to half guard. Abdulkhalikov is fighting to maintain full guard but Fatu has managed to sneak the leg through. Abdulkhalikov taking some punishment here, with Fatu in his half guard. Fatu lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Abdulkhalikov is breathing heavily. Fatu lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Fatu frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Fatu lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Fatu content just to control the position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fatu unloading with bombs! Fatu lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Fatu is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Abdulkhalikov can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Fatu postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Abdulkhalikov bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Fatu and the fight is over!
