These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lamar Thompkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Carl Gustav!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Winston Alpacca and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thompkins clinches.
A nice right hand lands inside from Gustav.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Gustav.
Gustav lands a right hand that snaps the head of Thompkins backwards.
Gustav lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Thompkins definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Thompkins has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Gustav regains guard immediately.

Thompkins drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gustav looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gustav looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gustav!

Thompkins managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Gustav.
Gustav wants to control but Thompkins is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gustav connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Thompkins some visible discomfort.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gustav wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thompkins keeps working.
Gustav tries to move to full mount but Thompkins actually manages to regain half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gustav thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Gustav trying to advance position but Thompkins counters by regaining guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gustav stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Thompkins has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Gustav manages to get his head free but now Thompkins has transitioned to an armbar! Gustav grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Thompkins! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Lamar Thompkins!
