Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
39 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Declan Sweeney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Floyd Patterson! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Ian Loll and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patterson will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Sweeney throws a body punch but Patterson moves out of range. Patterson throws a poor cross that misses
and Sweeney counters with a stiff right hand. Patterson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Floyd Patterson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sweeney cracks a nice hook into Patterson's ribs. The crowd cheers as Sweeney lands an impressive looking overhand right. Patterson doesn't seem phased though.
It looks like Floyd Patterson has been cut. Sweeney dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Patterson. That did some damage! Sweeney slips a jab and a cross from Patterson.
We've been informed that Patterson has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Patterson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sweeney. A lazy left from Sweeney finds it's target. Sweeney looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sweeney not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Sweeney missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Sweeney lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Sweeney is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Sweeney slips a nice elbow through Patterson's hands, connecting with Patterson's forehead.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sweeney lands a nice short elbow.
Patterson is rocked! Sweeney controlling the position here and throwing strikes from the top. Nice elbow lands there... and another... and another... oh, Patterson is out! Sweeney gets to his feet and admires his work - nice finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Declan Sweeney! Declan Sweeney decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
