PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kintarou Ooe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Waugh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Waugh has chosen mama said knock you out as his entrance music. Phil Waugh struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 172.9lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kintarou Ooe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Phil Waugh!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Dirk Anderson and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Waugh looking to score a takedown here. Ooe is defending well but Waugh drives through and ends up in Ooe's guard.

Waugh drops back looking for a leg! Ooe is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ooe manages to kick Waugh off! Waugh jumps back into Ooe's guard.

Waugh has gone for a leg lock! Ooe slips out almost immediately though and dives into Waugh's guard.


Waugh had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ooe defends it easily.

Waugh is looking for a triangle but Ooe pushes his legs off easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ooe avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ooe with a flurry of punches that miss.

Ooe looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Ooe's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Further stalling from Ooe.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ooe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Waugh looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Waugh working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ooe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ooe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Waugh looking for a guillotine here but Ooe defends easily.
Waugh utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ooe has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Ooe definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Ooe postures up in Waugh's guard and throws a big left but Waugh blocks it.
Ooe controls from within his opponent's guard.
Waugh is trying to keep Ooe in close.
Ooe slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Waugh looking for a guillotine here but Ooe defends easily.

Waugh is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Waugh is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ooe is concentrating on defense, preventing Waugh from advancing position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ooe is looking to get back to full guard here but Waugh has managed to pass to side control instead.
Ooe is looking for a sweep.
Ooe knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Waugh on the ground.

Ooe tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Waugh easily slips into full mount!
Waugh avoids the attempt from Ooe to control.
Ooe is wriggling around trying to escape.

Waugh looking for a guillotine from mount but Ooe is having none of it.

Waugh is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ooe has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Waugh is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ooe can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ooe swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ooe is looking to clinch.
Waugh's coach down at The Bear's Den was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Waugh's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Waugh looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Waugh shoots for a takedown but Ooe saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Waugh fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kintarou Ooe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Waugh.

Ooe was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Waugh has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Ooe swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

and Ooe counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ooe.
Waugh tries to pull guard but Ooe forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

A left hand lands to the body for Ooe.
Ooe scores with a shoulder strike.

Ooe pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Waugh is breathing heavily.
Good standup being displayed there by Ooe as he connects with a hook.

Waugh with a lazy takedown attempt

and Ooe counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ooe.
A frustrated look appears on Ooe's face as he tries to break the clinch.
A right hook to the body lands for Ooe.
Ooe lands a body shot in the clinch.
Ooe lands with a short shot to the head.
Ooe digs a right hand into Waugh's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Waugh's gas tank.
Ooe working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.

Ooe breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ooe fails to land with a series of punches.
Ooe lands the left hand.
Ooe bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Waugh's head backwards.
Ooe takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.


Waugh is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ooe lands a brutal uppercut that launches Waugh off his feet! Waugh tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Kintarou Ooe!
A very excited looking Kintarou Ooe rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
