2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kaleva Vettenranta! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Michael Johnstone and David Hoff.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vettenranta closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vettenranta lands in his opponent's guard. Driver could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Vettenranta throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Vettenranta makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vettenranta content to stall in guard here. Driver wants to stand and escape but Vettenranta is having none of it. Vettenranta's corner is telling him to maintain position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vettenranta stands and steps away. Driver gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Vettenranta scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Vettenranta stops Driver from getting back to his feet.
Vettenranta takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Vettenranta is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vettenranta lands with a punch from half guard. Vettenranta has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Vettenranta in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Driver tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap!
