Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Cenk John!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes shoots for a double leg takedown but John sprawls well. He's pushed Mendes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mendes rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but John moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

John throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mendes tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. John is in Mendes's guard.
John really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mendes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

John throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mendes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
John chips away with some ground and pound.

Mendes kicks John off and gets to his feet.
John is looking to clinch but Mendes is avoiding it.

Mendes gets caught napping as John dives in and scores a takedown. Mendes manages to retain guard.

Mendes gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

John must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

John drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

John gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

John shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. John showed some decent athleticism there.
Mendes is trying to stand up here but John is controlling him well.

John tries to pass to full mount but Mendes defends it.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

John tries to land knees in the clinch but Mendes avoids the damage to the body.
Mendes wants to get back to striking at distance but John won't allow it.

John is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mendes pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Mendes jumps guard and drags John to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

John tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mendes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - John looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mendes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mendes has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics John uses from the top position.

And John tries to counter it with a takedown but Mendes pushes his down on his head and steps out.

John gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
John has Mendes pressed against the cage, preventing Mendes from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Nice straight punches there by Mendes. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Mendes.

Mendes closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. John quickly recovers to half guard.

Mendes swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and John counters with a nice low kick that buckles Mendes's knee momentarily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

John shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mendes sprawls well. Mendes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. John gets slowly back to his feet.

John tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mendes defends well and John ends up having to push Mendes into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

John shoots in but Mendes avoids the takedown attempt easily.

John goes for a double leg but Mendes avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mendes continues to drive forward.
It looked like Mendes was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from John.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Todd Mendes.
I think Mendes has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
