Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Skip Gordon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alonzo Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gordon kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Long Hard Times to Come. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Skip Gordon! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Alonzo Harris! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Bart Greer and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Harris throws a hook to the side of Gordon's head but Gordon sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Harris throws a hook but Gordon avoids it easily. Harris has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Gordon gets caught napping as Harris dives in and scores a takedown. Gordon manages to retain guard. Gordon is looking to stand up but Harris isn't so interested in that idea. Gordon is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Harris is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gordon is looking to stand up but Harris isn't so interested in that idea. Harris is pushing down on Gordon's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gordon is fighting to maintain full guard but Harris has managed to sneak the leg through. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Harris wants to work for an arm triangle but Gordon is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Harris is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gordon is just riding it out for now. Harris eventually gives up the hold. Harris controlling the pace. Gordon tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Harris manages to move to mount!
Harris can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gordon is looking to escape. Harris avoids the attempt from Gordon to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gordon throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Harris has hold of Gordon's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gordon manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Harris wants to take Gordon's back here but Gordon is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Gordon wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Harris wants to take Gordon's back but he can't do it this time. Harris with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Gordon looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Gordon is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Harris gets his way!
Harris is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Gordon has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Harris has got one arm under Gordon's chin. This could be trouble... Gordon trying to control the other hand but Harris gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Gordon has tapped out! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Alonzo Harris! Alonzo Harris is the new light heavyweight champion! Alonzo Harris bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
