Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Felix Fonseca! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Arjan Kush! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Sandra Marshall and Bart Greer.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fonseca buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Kush doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Fonseca connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kush's hands. Fonseca bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Fonseca thows a body kick. Kush tries to catch it but that hurt him. Fonseca lands with a slapping head kick. Fonseca scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Fonseca scores with a hook. Kush's coach down at Highland CT & Spar was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Kush's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Kush crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Fonseca - the referee stops the clock and Kush gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Fonseca. Kush manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Fonseca throws a front kick that sends Kush stumbling back into the cage. Kush walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. A looping hook to the body misses from Fonseca. Kush does a little dance to reset his feet. Kush tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Fonseca gets caught flat footed, as Kush shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kush throws an elbow that misses. Fonseca uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kush's guard. Nice move by Fonseca!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fonseca stays in close to Kush's body and controls the position. Kush has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Fonseca doesn't defend quickly enough and Kush has managed to lock this one up! Can Fonseca escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Kush on a fantastic submission victory.
