Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Paul Hewitt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tommy Kygo! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Sandra Marshall and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hewitt keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Kygo with a lazy takedown attempt and Hewitt counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Kygo thinking. Hewitt misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kygo.
Kygo feints the counter takedown. Kygo lands a slapping body shot.
Kygo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hewitt circles away quickly and effectively. Kygo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hewitt as he jumps to the side. Paul Hewitt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tommy Kygo. Kygo tries to bum rush Hewitt with a series of wild strikes but Hewitt uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Kygo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kygo lands in his opponent's guard. Hewitt working a defensive guard here.
Hewitt is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Hewitt is looking for a triangle but Kygo pushes his legs off easily.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Hewitt is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kygo works his way to full guard. Good work. Kygo looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Kygo is looking to cinch up a triangle. Hewitt throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Kygo's body to avoid the submission. Kygo has instead reached around Hewitt's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Kygo arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Tommy Kygo! Tommy Kygo seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
