PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Skip Gordon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Drago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gordon comes into the arena with Long Hard Times to Come blaring out of the sound system. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Skip Gordon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ivan Drago!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drago misses with a body shot.
Drago's coach down at Cozad The Island was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Drago's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Gordon lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Drago misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Gordon counters with a straight right hand.
Drago moves away from the strike by Gordon.
Gordon throws a push kick but Drago slaps the foot to one side.
Drago with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gordon to score with a decent uppercut.
Gordon misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Drago misses with a body shot.
Drago looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Gordon scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Drago just misses with a punch to the body.
Drago takes one on the chin but seems OK.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gordon throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Gordon closes the distance and clinches.
Drago seems to have recovered his senses.
Gordon scores with a shot to the side of Drago's head.
Gordon lands a damaging elbow.
Drago takes an elbow to the forehead.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Drago is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Gordon can't fight it off and eventually Drago manages to take the fight to the floor. Gordon looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Gordon is working an open guard so Drago takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Gordon takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Gordon keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Gordon swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Drago misses with a body shot.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Gordon crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Drago - the referee stops the clock and Gordon gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Drago. Gordon manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Drago uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gordon.
Gordon lands with a cross.
Gordon scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Drago doesn't seem bothered though.
Drago looks winded!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A head kick misses from Gordon.
Drago is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Gordon blocks a head kick by Drago.
Drago takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Drago misses with a body shot.
Drago is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Gordon rather than just go for the knockout.

Gordon clinches up with Drago and pushes him back against the cage.

Gordon lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Drago takes an elbow to the forehead.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Gordon.
Gordon has Drago pressed against the cage, preventing Drago from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Gordon throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Gordon lands an elbow inside that Drago shrugs off.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Gordon creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Gordon lands a left hand.
Gordon lands with a short shot to the head.
Drago takes an elbow to the forehead.
Gordon cracks Drago with a nice body shot.
Clinched against the cage, Gordon lands a big elbow that drops Drago! The ref dives in to save him from more shots - Drago is complaining that he's OK but he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Skip Gordon!
