PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricard Cuenca (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kai Kha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cuenca kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is 2pac - Troublesome '96. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ricard Cuenca!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kai Kha!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Steven Brown and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kha fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Cuenca cracks Kha with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.


It looks like Kai Kha has been cut.
Kha throws a leg kick
letting Cuenca counter with a right hand.
Kha lands with a straight right. Cuenca didn't see that one coming.
Cuenca looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Cuenca misses with a looping left.
Cuenca misses with a head kick.
Kha missing with a left hand there. Cuenca was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Oooooh!!! Cuenca has knocked Kha down with a huge combo! Cuenca steps away and waves a wobbly Kha back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kha is still on wobbly legs! Can Cuenca finish him?
Kha lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Kha seems to have recovered his senses.
Kha misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cuenca.

and Cuenca counters with a crisp one two that drops Kha! Cuenca thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Kha to his feet! Kha is in big trouble!

Kha checks a leg kick nicely.
Cuenca takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A counter left hand to the body from Cuenca misses its target.
Kha lands a nice leg kick that just misses Cuenca's sensitive parts.
Kha throws a push kick but Cuenca slaps the foot to one side.
Cuenca connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Kha works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Kha misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cuenca lunges at Kha with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Kha's hand.
Cuenca has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kha finds it's way round the side to connect with Cuenca's head.
Kha stuns Cuenca with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kha misses with a leg kick
and Cuenca counters with a nice low kick that buckles Kha's knee momentarily.
Kha scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.


It looks like Ricard Cuenca has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kha lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Cuenca with a nice cross.
Cuenca pivots, looking for a leg kick but Kha is out of range and Cuenca settles back down.
Cuenca tries a head kick but it misses.
Cuenca cracks Kha with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Cuenca throws a leg kick that is checked
and Kha counters with a head kick. That will keep Cuenca thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Cuenca ducks under a wild hook from Kha.

Cuenca moves out of range as Kha throws a body kick.
Cuenca throwing a counter right hand but Kha manages to avoid it.
Kha goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
As Kha looks to move away, Cuenca throws a big counter combo but Kha just gets out of the way.
Cuenca misses with a left hand
and Kha counters with a stiff right hand.
Cuenca slips a straight right by Kha.
Cuenca takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Kha scores with a jab to the jaw.
A slow jab from Cuenca misses its intended target.
Kha throws out a counter right but Cuenca avoids it with no problem.
Cuenca needs to keep his hands up - Kha had a free shot at his head there.
A nice inside leg kick there by Kha. That's going to slow Cuenca down.
Nice shot lands for Kha.

Cuenca throws a jab when Kha was well out of range.
Cuenca misses with a straight right.
Kha digs a good body shot into Cuenca's ribs.
Kha is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Cuenca had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A good leg kick by Kha.
Kha looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Cuenca misses with an uppercut
and Kha counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Cuenca does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Kha throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cuenca sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kha throws a leg kick but Cuenca sees it coming and checks it nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kha will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kai Kha dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Back to the action!


Kha steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Cuenca.
Kha appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Kha throws a chopping leg kick but Cuenca manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
The fighters circling - Kha throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Cuenca was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Kha walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Cuenca checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Kha uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Cuenca.
Cuenca with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Kai Kha seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kha lands a front kick.
Kha has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kha throws a lazy head kick
and Cuenca cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Kha is looking to land body kicks.
A little feinted left hand from Cuenca on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Cuenca throws a right hand that misses
and Cuenca takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Cuenca waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Kha.
Kha turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Cuenca displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kha throws out the jab.
Cuenca thows a leg kick but Kha checks it
and Kha makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Cuenca really felt that one!

Kha fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Cuenca has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Cuenca walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
A slow jab from Cuenca misses its intended target.
Kha throws a sloppy head kick and Cuenca moves out of range easily.
This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Cuenca might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.

Cuenca connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kha's hands.
Kha tests Cuenca's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Cuenca is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Kha's jab looks to have found its range, popping Cuenca under the eye.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cuenca lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Cuenca misses with an uppercut.
Kha lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A head kick misses from Kha.
Kha throws a lazy uppercut
and Cuenca counters with a nice uppercut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cuenca sizes up Kha with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Kha drops his hands momentarily and Cuenca takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Cuenca looks to land a body kick but Kha moved away.
Kha throws out a counter right but Cuenca avoids it with no problem.
Cuenca takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Kha misses with a body kick.
Cuenca misses with a double jab.
Kha throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
A low kick from Cuenca misses
and Kha counters with a nice kick to the body.
Kha scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Cuenca doesn't seem bothered though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kha works Cuenca's body with a nice hook.
Cuenca swings widly with a right hand
and Kha counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Kha lets loose with a powerful body kick. Cuenca will feel that in the morning.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kai Kha showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Kha scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Kha lands a big head kick that sends Cuenca tumbling to the mat! Kha takes a step backwards and waves Cuenca back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Cuenca is rocked!
Cuenca misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kha ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kha scores with a kick to the midsection.
Kha feints and then cracks Cuenca's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Cuenca down.
Cuenca throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kha sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kha changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Cuenca is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cuenca misses with a wild body shot.
Cuenca lands with a slapping head kick.
Cuenca is looking to clinch.
Cuenca on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Kha dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Kha throws a sloppy head kick and Cuenca moves out of range easily.
Kha thows a left - swing and a miss!

Kha cracks Cuenca with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Kha has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Cuenca to stand back up!
Ricard Cuenca has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Oh Cuenca is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Kha throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Cuenca seems to have got his legs back now.
Cuenca throws a hook but Kha avoids it easily.
Kha steps in with a hook that catches Cuenca right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Kha follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Cuenca looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kai Kha!
After the big win, Kai Kha made sure to do all the important stuff like thanking his sponsors Sully's Bar & Grill and telling the interviewer how much he loves him.
