PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hop Sing Jung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Issumatar Tariaksuq (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jung's entrance music is Jiu Jitsu. A fine choice. Tariaksuq has chosen Tanya Tagaq - Uja as his entrance music. Issumatar Tariaksuq will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hop Sing Jung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Issumatar Tariaksuq!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Daniel Franklin and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tariaksuq stuffs the takedown attempt from Jung. Jung gets slowly back to his feet.
Tariaksuq tries to close the distance and clinch but Jung swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tariaksuq looks for the body kick but Jung saw that one coming.
A nice inside leg kick there by Tariaksuq. That's going to slow Jung down.
A shot to the body from Jung misses
and Tariaksuq counters with a low kick, right behind Jung 's knee.

Tariaksuq throws the kick towards the body but Jung avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tariaksuq pivots, looking for a leg kick but Jung is out of range and Tariaksuq settles back down.

Tariaksuq told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tariaksuq can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jung shoots in and gets a takedown into Tariaksuq's guard.

Tariaksuq has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Jung is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Jung gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Tariaksuq regains guard.

Jung slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Tariaksuq has control of Jung's left arm, preventing Jung from doing any damage.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Jung might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Tariaksuq throws a leg kick

and Jung counters with a takedown into side control.

Jung working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That was a close round but I would say that Hop Sing Jung will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Tariaksuq is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Issumatar Tariaksuq seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That was a close second round but I would say that Hop Sing Jung will probably get the nod.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Issumatar Tariaksuq has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Jung wants to control the action but instead Tariaksuq gets a body lock and reverses into Jung's guard! Nice work!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jung, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
