Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gulun Shulun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kidd Makunochi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Gulun Shulun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kidd Makunochi!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Dirk Anderson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shulun misses with a wild combination.

Makunochi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Shulun gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Shulun trying to control here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Makunochi is stalling here. Shulun is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Makunochi seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Shulun has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Shulun fails to land a wild elbow strike.

The strikes coming from Shulun are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Shulun misses with the ground and pound.

Shulun tries for a kimura but Makunochi is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shulun thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Makunochi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shulun. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Shulun goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Makunochi rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Shulun's guard! Nice work there by Makunochi!
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Shulun holds on and takes a little breather.

Shulun wants to control but Makunochi passes easily into half guard.
Makunochi prevents Shulun from improving his position.
Shulun is trying to maintain the position but Makunochi is very close to passing his half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Shulun is pressing down on Makunochi's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shulun is on top in guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Shulun's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Shulun wants to control from the top but Makunochi keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gulun Shulun dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Shulun takes a swing at Makunochi's ribcage but misses.
Makunochi with the counter takedown but Shulun avoids it easily.
Makunochi's coach down at The Bear's Den was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Makunochi's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Shulun looks to score with a jab to the body but Makunochi is just out of range.
Makunochi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shulun pinned against the cage. Shulun gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Shulun digs a good hook to Makunochi's body.
Kidd Makunochi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shulun lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Makunochi circles away quickly and effectively.
Shulun really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Shulun looks to score with a jab to the body but Makunochi is just out of range.
And Makunochi tries to counter it with a takedown but Shulun pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Shulun ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Makunochi moves away.
Makunochi feints the counter takedown.

Makunochi shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Shulun napping and manages to drive through into side control!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Shulun is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Makunochi's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Shulun is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Makunochi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Makunochi's back!

Shulun working for a choke but Makunochi is defending well.
Makunochi is trying to remain composed but Shulun is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.

Shulun struggling to land strikes to the head as Makunochi covers up.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Shulun is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Makunochi has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Shulun thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Shulun is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Shulun gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Shulun gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Shulun apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Shulun comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Shulun. Makunochi does a little dance to reset his feet.
Makunochi drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Shulun defends it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shulun lands a jab-cross combination.
Makunochi shoots for a takedown but Shulun saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Danga de danga de dang - Shulun scores with a four punch combination!
Shulun shoots in and drives through. Makunochi sprawls well.
And Makunochi tries to counter it with a takedown but Shulun pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Makunochi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Shulun counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Gulun Shulun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kidd Makunochi.
Makunochi scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Gulun Shulun seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Makunochi feints and as Shulun raises his hands in defense, Makunochi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Makunochi stopping the sweep attempt from Shulun.
Makunochi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Makunochi missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Makunochi postures up in Shulun's guard and throws a big left but Shulun blocks it.
Shulun looking to hit a scissor sweep but Makunochi is one step ahead there.

Makunochi is posturing up here but Shulun has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Makunochi tries to roll out but it's too tight and Makunochi has to tap! Slick submission there by Shulun!
