Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
23 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Simon Strange! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gary Ridgway! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ridgway avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Ridgway just misses with a punch to the body.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Ridgway enables Strange to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ridgway manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Ridgway not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ridgway is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ridgway is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ridgway keeping full guard, as Strange tries to pass. Ridgway has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Strange can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ridgway throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Strange wants to pass the guard but Ridgway is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ridgway working for a triangle but Strange defends it easily.
Ridgway manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Strange manages to get himself to full guard.
Strange is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Ridgway rolls with it to try and escape but Strange cranks on the arm and Ridgway is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
