Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Osgar Ragnvaldr! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
20 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Van Der Sluijs! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Richard Clark and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ragnvaldr lands a front kick. Ragnvaldr jabs Van Der Sluijs right on the nose. Van Der Sluijs blinks but takes it well. Excellent takedown into side control there by Ragnvaldr. Van Der Sluijs being controlled for a moment. Ragnvaldr is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Van Der Sluijs knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Ragnvaldr is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Van Der Sluijs will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Van Der Sluijs defending against the ground and pound. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Van Der Sluijs really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ragnvaldr. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ragnvaldr postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Van Der Sluijs is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Ragnvaldr is controlling him well. Van Der Sluijs is being controlled here. Van Der Sluijs takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Ragnvaldr prevents Van Der Sluijs from escaping the position. Ragnvaldr controls the position from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Van Der Sluijs is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Ragnvaldr has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Van Der Sluijs checks a leg kick. Ragnvaldr thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Van Der Sluijs if he has to take too many more of those.

Ragnvaldr scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Van Der Sluijs takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Ragnvaldr looks to land a left hand but Van Der Sluijs moved out of range nicely. Ragnvaldr does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Van Der Sluijs looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Ragnvaldr shoots for a takedown but Van Der Sluijs saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Ragnvaldr misses with a leg kick and Van Der Sluijs counters with a body kick that stops Ragnvaldr in his tracks momentarily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ragnvaldr scores with a nice right hand.
Van Der Sluijs sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Ragnvaldr connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Ragnvaldr looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Van Der Sluijs feints a counter leg kick. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Osgar Ragnvaldr dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Is there anything that Van Der Sluijs can do to turn this around? We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Van Der Sluijs tries to stand but Ragnvaldr is controlling from the bottom. Ragnvaldr is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ragnvaldr is looking for a triangle but Van Der Sluijs pushes his legs off easily.

and Van Der Sluijs counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Ragnvaldr lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Ragnvaldr lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Ragnvaldr throws a lazy right hand but Van Der Sluijs sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Ragnvaldr swings away with a leg kick that misses. Van Der Sluijs replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Ragnvaldr blocks it well. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Ragnvaldr. Van Der Sluijs shrugs it off though. Ragnvaldr throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Van Der Sluijs's waist but Van Der Sluijs gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ragnvaldr off to one side. A little jabbing left from Van Der Sluijs on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. This has been an exciting period of action! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ragnvaldr misses with a left hand and Van Der Sluijs counters with a head kick. That will keep Ragnvaldr thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Ragnvaldr just misses with a punch to the body.

He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. James Van Der Sluijs has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Ragnvaldr is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
