Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mike Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Royce Grade (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Royce Grade has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Charles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Royce Grade!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, William Gold and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grade tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Royce Grade seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grade looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Charles attempts a counter takedown but Grade avoids it well and moves away.

Grade closes the distance and clinches.
Charles's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Grade has had enough of the clinch but Charles keeps him there for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grade tries a knee to the head but Charles blocks it.

Charles jumps into guard, dragging Grade to the mat.
Charles is pulling down on Grade's head to control his posture.
Grade makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Charles knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Grade on the ground.
Grade wants to control from the top but Charles keeps moving.
Grade throws a big right hand that misses.
Charles has control of Grade's left arm, preventing Grade from doing any damage.
Grade throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Charles is pulling down on Grade's head. It's preventing any offense from Grade, at least for the moment.
Grade is pushing down on Charles's leg trying to pass to half guard. Charles is fighting to maintain full guard but Grade has managed to sneak the leg through.
Grade has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Charles gets back to full guard.
Grade lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Charles looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Grade wants to stand but Charles has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Charles pulls Grade in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Grade shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Charles pinned against the cage. Charles gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Charles feinted with a counter takedown.
A clash of legs there as Grade blocks the low kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Grade changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Charles tries to avoid it but Grade manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Charles to the ground. Charles escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Charles attempts a counter takedown but Grade avoids it well and moves away.
Mike Charles has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Royce Grade.
Grade shoots in looking for a takedown. Charles tries to sprawl out of it but Grade keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Charles manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Grade clinches.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Grade tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Charles smiles and moves away.
Grade looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Charles appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

and Charles counters with a single leg into guard. Grade didn't expect that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mike Charles will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Charles leaves Grade with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Charles tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Grade was well out of range. Poor timing from Charles.

Grade looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Charles keeping control of the position.
Grade wants to stand up but Charles has a hold of him and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Charles wants to improve his position but Grade is controlling well.
Charles is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Gorilla Warfare MMA, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Grade wants to free his trapped foot but Charles is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Charles is looking for a sweep. Grade is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Charles has his hands clasped together around Grade's back. He's all about the action.
Royce Grade has got the better of the ground game so far.

Charles is defending against the submission attempts here by Grade.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Charles preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Charles avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Grade tries to score a power double leg takedown but Charles sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Grade somewhat.
Charles feinted with a counter takedown.
Grade tries to clinch up but Charles circles away and keeps his distance.

Grade has a takedown stuffed.
Mike Charles has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Royce Grade.
Charles tries to land a front kick but Grade steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Grade will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Grade is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Charles throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Grade shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Charles as he avoids it easily.

Grade shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Charles sprawls well. Charles wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Grade gets slowly back to his feet.

Grade tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Charles paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Grade shoots in looking for a takedown but Charles manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Grade's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Charles drives through and clinches with Grade against the cage.

Charles's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Grade tries to close the distance and clinch but Charles swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Grade fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Grade tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Charles defends well and Grade ends up having to push Charles into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Charles shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Charles showed some decent athleticism there.
Charles is taking a breather. Grade says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Charles wants to pass to mount but Grade is defending the position.
Royce Grade has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mike Charles is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Charles works his way into full mount!

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Charles showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Charles, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
