PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Don Stewart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Hanson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Don Stewart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jonathan Hanson!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yuuki Gou and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hanson lands a lovely overhand right.
Stewart throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hanson's waist but Hanson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stewart off to one side.
Stewart defending well as Hanson loads up on a big left hand.
Stewart half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Stewart closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hanson's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stewart accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Stewart is fighting to break Hanson's control of his arms but Hanson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Stewart is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hanson is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hanson has escaped and now he's on top!

Stewart needs to keep his hands up - Hanson had a free shot at his head there.
Stewart misses with a takedown attempt - Hanson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Stewart lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hanson has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hanson and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Hanson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hanson stalks Stewart and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Stewart's face. Stewart staggers backwards, shaken.

Hanson paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hanson connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Hanson might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Hanson shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Stewart eats them both and turns towards Hanson to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Jonathan Hanson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Hanson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
