Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gary Ridgway! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Castor Rollins! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, William Gold and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A solid leg kick lands there for Rollins.
Rollins throws a head kick but Ridgway moves out of range.
Rollins misses with a double jab.
Ridgway attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Rollins lands a jab to the head.
It looks like Gary Ridgway has been cut. Ridgway lands a nice shot to the body.
Rollins throws a low kick but Ridgway moves out of range easily. Ridgway moves into range and connects with a jab. Ridgway misses with a body punch
and Rollins cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Ridgway throws a big shot that misses. A countering left hand to the body from Rollins misses. Rollins leaves Ridgway with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Ridgway throws a lazy body kick and Rollins counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ridgway throws a half hearted mid kick. Rollins was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind. A nice leg kick lands there from Ridgway. Rollins scores with a leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ridgway lunges at Rollins with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Rollins's hand. Rollins scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Rollins throws a shot to the body.
Ridgway misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rollins.
Rollins lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Rollins connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Nice cross by Rollins.
Gary Ridgway's cut is getting worse. Ridgway throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Ridgway will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Ridgway throws a body shot but no joy. Rollins has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Ridgway misses with a shot to the body and Rollins counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Ridgway is breathing heavily. Rollins fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rollins fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Ridgway. Ridgway throws a solid leg kick but Rollins takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Ridgway.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ridgway throws a nice outside leg kick. Rollins scores with a nice strike. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Ridgway.
A head kick misses from Ridgway. A head kick misses from Ridgway. Ridgway needs to keep his hands up - Rollins had a free shot at his head there. Rollins is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Ridgway uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rollins. Ridgway fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rollins. Rollins connects with a jab.
Ridgway is rocked!
Gary Ridgway's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Ridgway wants to land a leg kick but Rollins is out of range. Ridgway checks a low kick from Rollins. Gary Ridgway seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rollins steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Ridgway. That one must have hurt. Rollins scores with a hook to the body. Ridgway takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Ridgway takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rollins pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Ridgway back to the cage. Rollins follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Oh Ridgway is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Rollins throws an overhand right that has Ridgway reeling! Rollins follows up with more punches and Ridgway is out cold! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Castor Rollins! A less than humble Castor Rollins misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
