And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rick James!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James misses with a body punch
and Cesar Chavez cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Cesar Chavez lands a left and a right that send James crashing to the mat, dazed. Cesar Chavez thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


James is rocked!
James moves forwards but Cesar Chavez connects with a nice, crisp jab.
James is still on wobbly legs! Can Cesar Chavez finish him?
James looks to land a right hand but Cesar Chavez moved out of range.
A quick step to the side and Cesar Chavez tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Cesar Chavez lands a big uppercut and James crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but James looks OK. Cesar Chavez waves James back to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
James missing with a left hand there. Cesar Chavez was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

James throws an overhand right that lands on Cesar Chavez 's shoulder, as Cesar Chavez tries to avoid the shot.

Cesar Chavez feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends James sprawling to the canvas! James rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Cesar Chavez finish him?!

James seems to have recovered his senses.
Cesar Chavez is trying to pull guard but James has him pressed against the cage.
Cesar Chavez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as James walks away with a smile on his face. Cesar Chavez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Don Julio Cesar Chavez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cesar Chavez misses with a hook. James ducked under it nicely.
Cesar Chavez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
James uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cesar Chavez .
Cesar Chavez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as James throws out the jab.
James's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and James duly obliges.
Cesar Chavez throws a series of strikes that have James backpedaling.
Cesar Chavez scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. James doesn't seem bothered though.
James has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
James throws a right and a left that both miss.

James closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Cesar Chavez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. James defends it easily.

Cesar Chavez has his foot on James's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. James works his way back into a safe position though.

Cesar Chavez wants to hit a switch here but James passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Cesar Chavez there!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
James takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Let's hope that James has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

James looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

James throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cesar Chavez .
James takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Cesar Chavez lands a jab and follows it up with a massive straight that knocks James out cold! James is crumpled in the corner, his head only propped up by the cage! That's one for the organiziational promos right there! Wow, what a finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Don Julio Cesar Chavez !

In his post fight interview, Don Julio Cesar Chavez started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
