PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vaan Tseng (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Super Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vaan Tseng!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Super Man!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Tseng crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Man - the referee stops the clock and Tseng gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Man. Tseng manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Tseng swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Tseng fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Man to the ground. Tseng is now in Man's guard.
Tseng won't allow Man to sweep him here.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tseng accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tseng chips away with some ground and pound.
Tseng keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Man's head.
Man working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Tseng.
Man trying to keep a closed guard but Tseng is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tseng's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Tseng working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Tseng throws an elbow that misses. Man uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tseng's guard. Nice move by Man!

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Man throwing strikes from guard but Tseng blocks nicely.
Tseng has his hands on Man's head, controlling the position.
Man is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Tseng blocks a jab.
A counter left hand to the body from Tseng misses its target.
The fighters circling - Tseng throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Man feints the counter takedown.
Tseng slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.


It looks like Super Man has been cut.
Tseng avoids the body shot from Man.
Man takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Tseng throws a body shot but no joy.
Vaan Tseng seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tseng looks to score with a jab to the body but Man is just out of range.
Man scores with a hook.
Tseng keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Man moves in looking to clinch but Tseng pushes him off.
Man pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Man ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
A looping hook to the body misses from Tseng. Man does a little dance to reset his feet.
Man looks to score with a jab to the body but Tseng is just out of range.

Man moves into range and clinches up with Tseng.
Man tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Man blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Man misses with a hook to the ribs.
Stalling in the clinch from Tseng.
Tseng tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Man's elbow.
Man drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Tseng gets the underhooks and prevents it.
A right hand to the body from Tseng.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Man misses with some punches.
Man stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Man lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Man tries to work over Tseng's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Tseng working aggressively here.
Tseng wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Tseng's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Tseng jabbing away but nothing is landing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Tseng tries to keep at a distance but Man has taken the fight into the clinch.
Man can't find room to land a body shot as Tseng controls the action.
Man misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Man pushes Tseng back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Man is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Tseng stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Man lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Tseng or not.
Tseng is breathing heavily.
Man lands a left hand that snaps the head of Tseng backwards.
Tseng misses with a hook to the ribs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Vaan Tseng will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Super Man's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Man drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Tseng pulls Man in to control the position.
Man in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Tseng wants to stand but Man is controlling the position.
Tseng has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Tseng bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Man's guard.

Man is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Man pulls Tseng in close to prevent any damage.
Man lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Man postures up in Tseng's guard and throws a big left but Tseng blocks it.
Tseng looking to hit a scissor sweep but Man is one step ahead there.
Man postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Vaan Tseng overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Man stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tseng swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Man chips away with some ground and pound.
Tseng wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Man is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Tseng scores with a body shot.
Man fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tseng manages to avoid it.

Tseng takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
A punch combination from Tseng misses.
Tseng shoots in for a double leg but Man sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Man closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Man lands in his opponent's guard.
Tseng is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Man working some strikes from top position.
Man stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tseng swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Tseng wants to sweep here but Man controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Man's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Super Man showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Tseng just misses with a punch to the body.
Man tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Man defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Tseng.
That kick from Man tenderised Tseng's leg. Tseng is trying to keep his angry face on.
Man scores with a kick to the body.
Man lands with a good body shot.
Man looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Man goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Tseng, as that shot connected.

Man drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Tseng defends it well.

Man wants to land a leg kick but Tseng is out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Tseng misses the target.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Tseng.
Man fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Tseng looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Tseng throws a lazy right hand but Man sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Man drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Tseng defends it well.
Tseng lands with an overhand left.
Man feints and then cracks Tseng's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Tseng down.
Super Man seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Man moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Man fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Tseng sprawls well initially but Man persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Man is controlling the pace.
Tseng trying to control from the bottom.
Tseng wants to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Man takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Tseng is positioning himself well to prevent Man advancing to mount.
Tseng is trying to get back to full guard.
Man looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Man perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Man looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Tseng with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Man is looking to take a break and control but Tseng is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Man slows the pace down in half guard.

Man working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Man keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Tseng is not content to let Man control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Man lands with a right hand.
Man misses with a body kick.
Tseng avoids the body shot from Man.
Man throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Man takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Tseng connects with a nice looking jab.
Man slips under a jab from Tseng.
Tseng misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Man moves into the clinch.
Man tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Tseng's elbow.
Man tries to work over Tseng's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Man fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Nice body punch from Man - that landed with a thud.
Tseng prevents a body shot from Man.
Tseng tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vaan Tseng. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tseng wants to get back to striking at distance but Man won't allow it.

Super Man comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Man has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
