Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Irek Ismagilov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Barry Squireson! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Igor Prikhodko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ismagilov throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ismagilov drops his hands momentarily and Squireson takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Squireson dips to his left and cracks Ismagilov with an uppercut! Squireson lands a really nice looking cross but Ismagilov seems unphased.
Squireson dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Ismagilov fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Squireson avoids it really well and circles away. Squireson let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Squireson throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Ismagilov on the side of the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Squireson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Ismagilov throws a body punch but Squireson moves out of range. Squireson appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Squireson scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Ismagilov looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ismagilov has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Squireson finds it's way round the side to connect with Ismagilov's head. Ismagilov takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Squireson lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Squireson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ismagilov. Ismagilov misses with a wild body shot. Ismagilov misses with a hook to the body
and Squireson counters with a lovely straight right hand! Squireson scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Squireson connects with a body shot that sends Ismagilov's belly button to the back. Ismagilov throws a lazy right hand but Squireson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Squireson scores with a jab. Ismagilov acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Ismagilov drops his hands momentarily and Squireson takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Squireson misses with a jab to the body
and Ismagilov decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Squireson's guard. Squireson is looking to stand back up but Ismagilov counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Squireson.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Ismagilov's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Ismagilov wants to control but Squireson is keeping him busy. Ismagilov is nestled in close to Squireson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Ismagilov throwing shots but Squireson is blocking nicely. Ismagilov winds up and cracks Squireson with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Ismagilov looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Ismagilov is nestled in close to Squireson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Squireson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ismagilov. Ismagilov seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nice strikes from Ismagilov there. Ismagilov missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Ismagilov throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Squireson seems to have recovered his senses. Nice strikes from Ismagilov there. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Squireson can do anything to dispel that myth. Ismagilov working over Squireson with some ground and pound. Squireson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Ismagilov with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Ismagilov lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Squireson! More strikes land and this one is all over! Ismagilov jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Irek Ismagilov! An out of breath Irek Ismagilov thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
