PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jiri Sayonara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ode Jokinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sayonara comes to the cage accompanied by Edge Of The Blade. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jiri Sayonara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 18 - 4, fighting out of London, Ode Jokinen!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sayonara moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Sayonara tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Jokinen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A slapping leg kick lands for Jokinen.
Sayonara looks to score with a jab to the body but Jokinen is just out of range.
Jokinen ducks under a wild hook from Sayonara.

Jokinen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jokinen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sayonara swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sayonara is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jokinen wants to control from the top but Sayonara keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sayonara scores with a nice strike.
Sayonara takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Jokinen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sayonara to the mat! Sayonara manages to get full guard.
Jokinen tries to free his leg and advance position but Sayonara is retaining full guard.
Sayonara is pulling down on Jokinen's head to control his posture.
Jokinen makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Sayonara is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jokinen is looking to work some ground and pound but Sayonara has wrist control.
Jokinen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sayonara holds on and takes a little breather.

It looked like Sayonara wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sayonara is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jokinen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jokinen's back!

Sayonara is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Jokinen defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Jokinen is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Sayonara gets his way!

Sayonara escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jokinen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Sayonara is looking for a triangle but Jokinen pushes his legs off easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sayonara is on top in guard.

Jokinen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sayonara's guard.

Jokinen working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Sayonara's head.
Ode Jokinen has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sayonara trying to keep a closed guard but Jokinen is proving a slippery customer.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jiri Sayonara will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Sayonara with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Jokinen to score with a decent uppercut.

Sayonara lands with a hook. Jokinen tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Jokinen doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Sayonara walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Sayonara cracks Jokinen with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Jokinen is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Jokinen connects with a jab.
Jokinen lands a jab to the head.
Sayonara misses with a hook. Jokinen ducked under it nicely.
Jokinen lands a leg kick that knocks Sayonara off balance momentarily.
Jokinen connects with a solid leg kick.
Sayonara throws a body kick that misses.
Jokinen thuds his right hand into Sayonara's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sayonara enables Jokinen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sayonara manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Sayonara will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jiri Sayonara.
I think Sayonara has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
