PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Toshi Matoshin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexandr Nikitin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matoshin comes into the arena with Mortal Kombat theme blaring out of the sound system. Nikitin has chosen Smack My Bitch Up as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 41 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Toshi Matoshin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 21 - 5, fighting out of Hilo, Alexandr Nikitin!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot by Matoshin.
Nikitin fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Matoshin connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Nikitin gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Nikitin lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Matoshin.

Matoshin goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Nikitin has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Matoshin regains guard immediately.

Matoshin throws a lazy body kick

and Nikitin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Nikitin sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Matoshin's guard.
Nikitin thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Matoshin's head.
Nikitin is keen to just control but Matoshin is a slippery customer.
Matoshin is trying to control but Nikitin passes into side control!
Nikitin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Matoshin is working to avoid the ground and pound but Nikitin connects with a decent elbow.
Matoshin wants to control but Nikitin postures up.
Nikitin takes a little break here. Matoshin wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nikitin controlling the position well here. Matoshin rolled but Nikitin kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Well, with Nikitin on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Matoshin is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
