Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alexander Gustafson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gustav Hangerman! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Marco Blurström.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hangerman misses with a wild combination.
Hangerman misses with a head kick.
Hangerman slips a jab and a cross from Gustafson.
Hangerman gets a clinch. We've been hearing reports that Gustafson has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Gustafson breaks from the clinch.
Hangerman jabs at Gustafson's body. Hangerman fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gustafson, pushing him back against the cage. Hangerman breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hangerman closes the distance and clinches up with Gustafson, looking for a takedown. Hangerman pushes Gustafson against the cage but Gustafson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Gustafson chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Hangerman can pounce on him.
Hangerman misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hangerman decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gustafson is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Gustafson is trying to get back to full guard. Hangerman is looking to take a break and control but Gustafson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Gustafson is trying to control but can't.
Well, if Hangerman is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Hangerman is thwarting Gustafson's attempts to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Hangerman seems to be looking for submissions.
Hangerman is working for a kimura but Gustafson is defending it quite comfortably.
Hangerman lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Gustafson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hangerman won't allow Gustafson to sweep him here. Gustafson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hangerman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Gustafson is tightening it up a little... Hangerman has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Hangerman reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Hangerman taps out! Nice BJJ there by Gustafson!
