PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between William Blake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mordecai Sackett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blake comes to the cage accompanied by Dead Man. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, William Blake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mordecai Sackett!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sackett throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Blake counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Blake steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sackett.
Sackett keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Blake.
Blake ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Blake throws a lazy right hand but Sackett sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Blake uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sackett.
Sackett throws a body kick that misses

and Blake counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Blake content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Blake stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sackett swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Blake throws an elbow that misses. Sackett uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Blake's guard. Nice move by Sackett!

Blake wants to sweep here but Sackett controlling him for the moment.
Blake might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Blake working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Sackett has passed into half guard!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Blake is concentrating on defense, preventing Sackett from advancing position.
Blake is looking to get back to full guard here but Sackett has managed to pass to side control instead.
Blake is looking for a sweep.
Blake manages to work his way to half guard, despite Sackett's best efforts.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sackett takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

It looks like Sackett is going to stand back up.

Blake wants to improve his position but Sackett is controlling well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That kick from Sackett tenderised Blake's leg. Blake is trying to keep his angry face on.
Mordecai Sackett is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sackett swings widly with a right hand
and Blake makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Sackett does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Sackett gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Blake tightens his grip and picks Sackett up, before dumping him to the ground. Sackett manages to land in guard.
Blake throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sackett works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Blake won't allow Sackett to sweep him here.
Blake loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Blake postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Sackett pulls Blake in to control the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sackett is on top in guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Blake wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that William Blake will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Mordecai Sackett has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Blake tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sackett sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Blake somewhat.
Blake looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Blake ducks right into an uppercut from Sackett.
Blake moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Blake fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sackett manages to avoid it.
Sackett looks to score with a jab to the body but Blake is just out of range.
Blake is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Blake on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sackett moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Blake throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Sackett throws out a counter right but Blake avoids it with no problem.
Blake throws a looping overhand right but Sackett ducks down to avoid it.
Sackett misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Blake was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Blake takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Blake closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sackett's guard.
Blake throws a strike but Sackett rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Blake has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Blake is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Blake is pulling down on Sackett's head. It's preventing any offense from Sackett, at least for the moment.
Sackett passes into half guard.
Sackett is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Blake is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Blake moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Sackett avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sackett is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Mordecai Sackett showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Sackett lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

A little jabbing left from Sackett on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Blake steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Sackett. That one must have hurt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sackett fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Blake manages to avoid it.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Blake crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Sackett - the referee stops the clock and Blake gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Sackett. Blake manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sackett bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Blake's head backwards.

Blake checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Blake stuns Sackett with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Some bone on bone action there as Sackett checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Blake is looking to wear down Sackett with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Blake shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

and Sackett counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Blake thinking.

Good leg kick by Sackett there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Blake's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Sackett connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Blake scrambles back to his feet.
Mordecai Sackett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sackett swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Blake lands a nice shot to the body.

and Sackett counters with a nice body shot.
Blake shoots in for a double leg but Sackett sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

and Blake makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Sackett thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Blake if he has to take too many more of those.

Sackett connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Blake's hands.
Blake takes a swing at Sackett's ribcage but misses.
Sackett looks for the body kick but Blake saw that one coming.

It seemed like Sackett was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Blake.
Blake wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Mordecai Sackett comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sackett has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Mordecai Sackett tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
