Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Helmuth Tuminen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bam Bam! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksandr Martynov and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bam changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tuminen tries to avoid it but Bam manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tuminen to the ground. Tuminen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Tuminen is looking for a counter combo. Tuminen tries a head kick but it misses.
Tuminen lands a high kick!
Tuminen definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Bam shoots in but Tuminen avoids the takedown attempt easily. Tuminen scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Tuminen throws a nice inside leg kick. Bam fails to land the takedown. Helmuth Tuminen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bam Bam. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bam fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Tuminen sprawls well initially but Bam persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Bam lands with a punch from half guard. Bam not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bam working Tuminen over with strikes. Bam looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Tuminen is trying to maintain the position but Bam is very close to passing his half guard. Bam scoring with strikes to the body and head. Bam sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Tuminen defending well though. Bam landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Bam working Tuminen over with strikes. That's two minutes gone in the round. Bam working the head and body with strikes. Bam takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Bam scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Bam sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Tuminen defending well though. Ground and pound from Bam. Bam throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tuminen blocking the ground and pound attempt from Bam. Bam working Tuminen over with strikes.
Tuminen is rocked! Bam scores with a big shot! Tuminen's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Tuminen! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
