PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vai Funaki (ranked 9674 p4p, 850 weight class) and Johnny Lydon (ranked 8879 p4p, 823 weight class). Vai Funaki had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 206.1lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funaki shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Funaki moves out of range of the strikes.
Funaki went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Lydon swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Funaki avoids a punch combination nicely.

Funaki closes the distance and clinches.

Funaki gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.
Funaki stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lydon wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Funaki has him pressed against the cage.
Lydon prevents the takedown attempt.
Funaki lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Funaki is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.

Funaki's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Lydon throws a nice looking combination but Funaki bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Lydon ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lydon lands a jab and follows it up with a massive straight that knocks Funaki out cold! Funaki is crumpled in the corner, his head only propped up by the cage! That's one for the organiziational promos right there! Wow, what a finish!
