Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny Vegas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jan Paul Valens!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Radbod Blank and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vegas throws a wild body kick that Valens sees coming a mile off.
Vegas has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Valens finds it's way round the side to connect with Vegas's head.
Vegas scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Vegas has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Valens fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Vegas manages to avoid it.
A nice leg kick lands there from Valens.

Vegas closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Vegas escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Valens takes one to the chin there.
Vegas throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Valens moves out of range as Vegas throws a body kick.
Vegas misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Valens.
Valens shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Vegas as he avoids it easily.

A head punch on the inside from Vegas fails to land.

Vegas pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Vegas throws a lazy uppercut

and Valens counters with a single leg into guard. Vegas didn't expect that.
Vegas utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Valens has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Vegas controls Valens momentarily but Valens frees himself.

Vegas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Valens gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Valens makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vegas has his foot on Valens's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Valens works his way back into a safe position though.

Valens keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Vegas's head.

Valens got a little sloppy there for a moment and Vegas has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Valens has managed to get both his arms back between Vegas's legs - danger averted.

Valens prevents Vegas from escaping the position.

Valens wants to control but Vegas is keeping him busy.

Valens connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Vegas some visible discomfort.
Vegas tries to improve position but can't.
You can see the frustration on Vegas's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Jan Paul Valens dominated that round.

Vegas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Vegas has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Valens should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Vegas has tightened it up now! Valens should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
