Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Reiner Brawn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phillip Baroni! The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brawn tries to close the distance and clinch but Baroni swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Baroni throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Brawn gets in close and instigates a clinch. Baroni blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Baroni manages to break the clinch.
Brawn uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Baroni. Brawn swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Brawn is looking to clinch. Brawn wants to clinch up but Baroni keeps it at a distance. Baroni takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Baroni misses with a lunging right hand
and Baroni takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Brawn tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Baroni manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Baroni misses with an uppercut. Brawn saw that one coming. Baroni lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Brawn fails with an attempt to clinch.
Baroni fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Brawn wants to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brawn keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Baroni. Baroni thuds a left hand into Brawn's body. Brawn tries to clinch there but Baroni circles away.
Baroni is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Brawn tries to close the distance and clinch up but Baroni swats him away and circles back towards the center. Brawn fails in his attempt to clinch. Baroni looks to throw the jab but Brawn is out of range. Phillip Baroni is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Baroni cracks a nice hook into Brawn's ribs. Brawn darts in trying to clinch and Brawn takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Brawn closes the distance looking to clinch and Baroni counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Baroni jabbing away but nothing is landing. Brawn shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Baroni scores with a nice head shot. Brawn gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Brawn tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Baroni is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Brawn buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Brawn!! Brawn is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Baroni throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Phillip Baroni! Jumping up and down and very excited, Phillip Baroni waved his t-shirt featuring Freebok (85% Laundry)'s logo in front of the cameras.
