Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Diego Escobar! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cayden Cadman ! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cadman ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Cadman stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Escobar. Escobar cracks Cadman with a right hand to the side of the head.
It looks like Cayden Cadman has been cut. Escobar throws a left and a right that both miss
and Cadman makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Cadman throws a body shot but no joy. Cadman checks the leg kick nicely there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Escobar has taken the fight to the clinch.
Cadman lands an uppercut. Escobar tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Cadman misses with a hook from the clinch. Cadman fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Escobar works on Cadman 's body with a couple of short punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Escobar lands a left hand.
Escobar blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
A short right from Escobar. Cadman swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Escobar jumps guard but Cadman stands there with Escobar around his waist. Escobar gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Escobar throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Cadman s head. Escobar ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Escobar no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Cadman wants to get up but he can't break Escobar's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Escobar wants to sweep here but Cadman controlling him for the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Escobar manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cadman manages to get himself to full guard.
Escobar trying to control but Cadman is working from the bottom. Escobar looking to pass the guard. Escobar looking to sit in guard and control but Cadman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Escobar has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Cadman should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Escobar has tightened it up now! Cadman should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Diego Escobar! Diego Escobar retains his lightweight title! After the fight, Diego Escobar was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly. Cayden Cadman was interviewed post fight and said 'He is a tough opponent, but it's back to the drawing board I will get my some wins and if he is still champ well Escobar you better be ready to go to hell and back '.
