Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Japa Koniu (ranked 567 p4p, 81 weight class) and James Pearson (ranked 456 p4p, 66 weight class). Japa Koniu has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Japa Koniu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Pearson!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, William Gold and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koniu misses with a head kick.
Pearson throws a wild body kick that Koniu sees coming a mile off.
Pearson's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Koniu connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Pearson scrambles back to his feet.


It looks like James Pearson has been cut.
Koniu attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Pearson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Koniu manages to avoid it.
Pearson delivers a nice body kick.
Pearson lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Pearson blocks a head kick by Koniu.
Koniu shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Pearson eats them both and turns towards Koniu to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
A clash of legs there as Koniu blocks the low kick.
Pearson misses with a straight right.
Pearson misses with a low kick as Koniu jumps back.
Pearson fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Koniu has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Pearson.

Pearson takes a jab right on the kisser.
Pearson throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Pearson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Koniu sees it coming and avoids it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Koniu lands a lovely overhand right.
Pearson pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Koniu tries to clinch up.
Koniu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Pearson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pearson scores with a hook to the body. Koniu takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Pearson throws a quick inside leg kick.
Pearson thuds his right hand into Koniu's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.


It looks like Japa Koniu has been cut.
Koniu is looking to clinch.
Pearson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Pearson throws a nice looking combination but Koniu bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Pearson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Koniu manages to avoid it.
Some wild striking there from Koniu.
Pearson walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Koniu checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
An attempted straight right counter from Koniu misses the target.
Koniu tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Koniu bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pearson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Koniu.
Pearson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Koniu.
Pearson is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Koniu takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Koniu clinches with his opponent.
Pearson misses with a body punch.
Koniu misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Pearson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Pearson throws a hook but Koniu avoids it easily.
Pearson throws a quick inside leg kick.

Pearson cracks Koniu with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Pearson has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Koniu to stand back up!


Koniu is rocked!
Koniu moves out of range of the body kick.
Koniu swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Pearson throws a quick inside leg kick.
Pearson takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Pearson connects with a solid leg kick.
Pearson throws a sloppy head kick and Koniu moves out of range easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pearson dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Koniu. That did some damage!
Pearson misses with a low kick as Koniu jumps back.
Koniu jabs Pearson to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Pearson avoids the head kick by Koniu.
Koniu moves out of range of the leg kick from Pearson.
Pearson throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Koniu counters with a lovely straight right hand!


That has opened up James Pearson's cut even more.
Pearson misses with a body shot.
Pearson misses with a kick to the body
and Pearson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Koniu on the wrong end of a nice jab.


Japa Koniu's cut is getting worse.
Koniu is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Koniu throws a head kick but Pearson moves out of range.
A low kick from Pearson misses
and Koniu counters with a series of strikes. Pearson will be more careful next time no doubt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pearson lands a nice looking kick to the body. Koniu takes a step back to recover.
Pearson throws a hook but Koniu avoids it easily.
Koniu looks for the body kick but Pearson saw that one coming.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Koniu. Pearson shrugs it off though.
Koniu throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pearson throws a leg kick but Koniu moved away.
Pearson misses with a looping left.
Koniu blocks a head kick by Pearson.
As Pearson tries to get set, Koniu tries to push him back and clinch up but Pearson manages to avoid the attempt.
Koniu tries to clinch but Pearson moves out of range.
Pearson scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Koniu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Pearson keeps the fight on the outside.

Pearson drops Koniu with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Koniu looks back up at him and smiles so Pearson waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Japa Koniu's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

Jeez, Japa Koniu's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
A nice leg kick lands there from Pearson.
Pearson misses with a hook. Koniu ducked under it nicely.
Koniu went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Koniu moves in looking to clinch but Pearson pushes him off.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pearson misses with a body shot.
Koniu half committed to a counter leg kick.
Pearson swings for the body but Koniu moves out of range.
Pearson throws a shot from downtown. Koniu moves away and avoids it.
Pearson fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Pearson dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Pearson cracks Koniu with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Pearson has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Koniu to stand back up!
Koniu drops his hands momentarily. Pearson doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Koniu staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Koniu doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). James Pearson!
James Pearson seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
