Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Glass Joe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Max Onera! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Joseph Jones and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Onera shoots in looking for a takedown. Joe tries to sprawl out of it but Onera keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Joe manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Joe throws a big counter combination but Onera scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Onera throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Joe tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Onera is in Joe's guard. Joe pushes Onera off and gets back to his feet.
Onera has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Onera attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Onera connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Onera shoots in for a takedown but Joe shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Joe scores with a takedown into Onera's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Onera is trying to keep Joe in close.
Joe trying to control the position from guard on top but Onera is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Joe gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Joe looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Sloppy strikes from Joe. Those never looked like landing. Onera tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Onera gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Onera tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Glass Joe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Onera.
That's one minute gone in the round. Onera misses with a hook to the ribs.
Joe is pressed up against the cage. Onera has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Joe down to the mat. Joe avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Joe takes a swing at Onera's ribcage but misses. Onera fails with the takedown. An inside leg kick lands from Joe. Joe misses with a wild body shot. Onera connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Joe's hands. Joe turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Joe shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Onera's guard. Joe postures up.
Onera looking for a guillotine here but Joe defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Joe controls from within his opponent's guard. Onera is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Onera is working an open guard so Joe takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Joe keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Onera. Joe tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Joe throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Onera tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Joe is in Onera's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Onera tries to land a sweep but no joy. Onera is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Onera is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Joe would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Onera is trying to control the position but Joe postures up. Onera wants to sweep but no luck.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joe slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Onera has a closed guard, preventing Joe from standing up. Joe passes Onera's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Joe stands up and beckons Onera to join him on the feet. Joe takes a swing at Onera's ribcage but misses. Joe thows a left - swing and a miss! Onera misses with a looping left. Onera closes the distance and clinches up with Joe, looking for a takedown. Onera pushes Joe against the cage but Joe circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Onera wants to clinch up but Joe keeps it at a distance. Joe defending well as Onera loads up on a big left hand. No luck for Onera with that takedown attempt. Joe swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Joe lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Joe. Joe loads up on a big right hand but Onera slips the punch. Onera darts in looking for a takedown but Joe gets double underhooks and turns Onera into the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Joe looks to land a combination but Onera avoids it well. Joe misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Onera.
Onera tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Joe scores with a hook to the body. Onera takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. This has been an exciting period of action! Joe scores with a takedown into Onera's guard. Joe has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Onera working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Joe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Joe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Onera tries to land a sweep but no joy. Joe postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Onera isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Joe stacks Onera on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Joe! Onera tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad. Joe has control of Onera's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Onera regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Joe gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Glass Joe dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Joe takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Joe throws a quick inside leg kick. Glass Joe is winning the standup battle so far. Onera looks for a takedown but Joe sprawls well. Joe looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Onera! Joe is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Onera can do to turn this around? Onera tries to improve position but can't. Joe is looking to take a break and control but Onera is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Onera is trying to improve his position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Joe has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Joe fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Onera moves in looking to clinch but Joe pushes him off. Joe closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Onera to the mat! Onera manages to get full guard.

Joe decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Onera, up you get! Joe closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Joe lands in his opponent's guard. Joe drops back looking for a leg! Onera is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Onera manages to kick Joe off! Joe jumps back into Onera's guard. Onera trying to keep a closed guard but Joe is proving a slippery customer.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Onera is looking for a triangle but Joe pushes his legs off easily.
Joe stands up and waves to Onera to follow him. Onera scores with a nice head shot. Onera is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. A slow jab from Onera misses its intended target. Joe throws an overhand right that lands on Onera's shoulder, as Onera tries to avoid the shot. Onera gets caught flat footed, as Joe shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Joe trying to control but Onera is working from the bottom. Joe gets to his feet. Onera looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Joe throws a right and a left that both miss. Onera gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Nice takedown defense from Joe. No joy for Onera on that attempt. Joe with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Joe fails to land with a series of punches.
Joe instigates a clinch. Joe breaks from the clinch.
The fighters circling - Onera throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Joe misses with a head kick.
Onera jabs Joe to the body, keeping him at a distance. Onera dives in and grabs Joe's left leg, looking for a takedown. Joe pushes down on Onera's head and hops out. Glass Joe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Onera. Joe lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Onera circles away quickly and effectively. Onera will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Joe connects with a leg kick. Onera looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Joe gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Onera misses with a looping right. A little feinted left hand from Joe on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Onera is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Joe gets a takedown into half guard. Onera is positioning himself well to prevent Joe advancing to mount. Joe in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Onera tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Joe!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Glass Joe! Glass Joe very nearly forgot to thank Sully's Bar & Grill amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you. Max Onera was interviewed post fight and said 'I'm getting back in the gym and getting ready for the next fight. '.
