PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Igydo Dall (ranked 544 p4p, 67 weight class) and Joseph OByrne (ranked 508 p4p, 63 weight class). Dall comes to the cage accompanied by Blue Ice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 0, fighting out of New York, Igydo Dall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joseph OByrne!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OByrne fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Dall on the side of the head.
Dall pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Dall looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Dall blocks the body kick.
A leg kick checked by OByrne.
OByrne slips under a jab from Dall.
Dall swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Joseph OByrne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A clash of legs there as Dall blocks the low kick.
OByrne's jab looks to have found its range, popping Dall under the eye.
Dall slips a jab from OByrne.
Dall tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but OByrne was well out of range. Poor timing from Dall.
Dall fakes the leg kick and cracks OByrne in the body.
Nice jab there from OByrne.

Dall darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
OByrne gets back to full guard.
Dall stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. OByrne swivels though and keeps the full guard.

OByrne lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Dall working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. OByrne doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. OByrne manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Dall is looking to sweep but instead, OByrne has passed into half guard.
OByrne performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

OByrne sitting and controlling from the half guard.

Dall is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute OByrne jumps into side control!
OByrne content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

OByrne takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Dall looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Dall shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has OByrne pinned against the cage. OByrne gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
OByrne throws a quick inside leg kick.
A swing and a miss from Dall.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
OByrne moves out of range of the body kick.
Dall scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
A slapping leg kick lands for OByrne.
OByrne lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Dall at a distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Joseph OByrne will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


OByrne takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Dall scores with a kick to the midsection.
Dall misses with a takedown attempt - OByrne sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
OByrne lands a head shot.
Dall throws a jab when OByrne was well out of range.
OByrne cracks Dall with a right hand to the side of the head.

Dall throws an overhand right that lands on OByrne's shoulder, as OByrne tries to avoid the shot.
OByrne looks like he wants to counter punch here.
OByrne lunges at Dall with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Dall's hand.
Dall takes one on the button.
Dall takes a jab right on the kisser.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dall checks a leg kick nicely.
OByrne throws a series of punches but Dall moves out of range.
A nice leg kick lands there from Dall.
OByrne has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from OByrne there as he acknowledges the shot.
Dall darts in looking for a takedown but OByrne gets double underhooks and turns Dall into the cage.
OByrne tries a low kick but Dall avoids it.
Dall fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Igydo Dall. That's going to take a lot out of him.

OByrne throws a hook to the side of Dall's head but Dall sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Dall with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
OByrne defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Dall.
OByrne has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Good exchange - OByrne coming out on top.

OByrne tries to land a leg kick but Dall saw it coming and moves away.
OByrne throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
OByrne throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dall on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Dall will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
OByrne looks to land a right hand but Dall moved out of range.
OByrne lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from OByrne! But no joy.
OByrne throws a solid leg kick but Dall takes the impact on his shin and smiles at OByrne.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from OByrne. Dall shrugs it off though.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dall throws the kick towards the body but OByrne avoids it.
Dall blocks a leg kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Dall.
Dall needs to keep his hands up - OByrne had a free shot at his head there.
Dall throws a right and a left that both miss.
OByrne throws a half hearted mid kick.
Dall loads up on a big right hand but OByrne slips the punch.
OByrne tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dall was well out of range. Poor timing from OByrne.
Dall feinted with a counter takedown.

A momentary lapse in concentration from OByrne enables Dall to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. OByrne manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dall is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Dall is trying to work for a kimura but OByrne is defending well.

OByrne is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Dall seems to be looking for submissions.

Dall is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
OByrne is concentrating on defense, preventing Dall from advancing position.

Dall is working for a kimura but OByrne is defending it quite comfortably.

Dall is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and OByrne defends it well.

Dall is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, OByrne has managed to free his arm - good work.

Joseph OByrne showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


OByrne ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dall moves away.
OByrne scores with a leg kick.
OByrne throws a hook to the side of Dall's head but Dall sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Dall throws out a loose jab but OByrne uses good head movement to avoid it.
Dall gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Dall lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Dall.
OByrne fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Dall has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
OByrne goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Dall looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? OByrne is fending him off so far but Dall persists. Nope, OByrne circles away and we're back to standing.
OByrne fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Dall.
Dall lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
OByrne on the wrong end of a nice jab.
OByrne lands a nice looking body kick.

OByrne tries a quick counter leg kick but Dall is wise to it.

OByrne slaps away a takedown attempt from Dall, before circling back to the center of the mat.
OByrne throws out a loose jab but Dall uses good head movement to avoid it.
Dall half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
OByrne lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Dall takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
OByrne checks a leg kick.
OByrne connects with a good right hand that stumbles Dall. Dall circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

OByrne is pulling down on Dall's head to control his posture.

Igydo Dall overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
