PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jason Mallone (ranked 3652 p4p, 383 weight class) and David McCarthy (ranked 1862 p4p, 217 weight class). McCarthy comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Chamillionaire - Ridin' ft. Krayzie Bone kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jason Mallone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David McCarthy!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Alyssa Summers and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McCarthy fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mallone sprawls well initially but McCarthy persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

McCarthy is trying to work for a kimura but Mallone is defending well.

McCarthy is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mallone is just riding it out for now. McCarthy eventually gives up the hold.
Mallone is trying to stand back up but McCarthy is controlling him
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mallone is defending against the submission attempts here by McCarthy.

McCarthy is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mallone is just riding it out for now. McCarthy eventually gives up the hold.

McCarthy seems to be looking for submissions.

McCarthy is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Mallone has managed to free his arm - good work.

Mallone on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mallone tries to get out of the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

McCarthy is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mallone is in trouble now - McCarthy has advanced to mount!

McCarthy is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mallone to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mallone shrugs it off.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Poor strikes thrown by McCarthy there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Mallone is trying to escape the mount.

McCarthy working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McCarthy with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
McCarthy avoids the attempt from Mallone to control.

McCarthy throws some wild stikes that Mallone manages to avoid easily.

Mallone defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from McCarthy.

McCarthy looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

McCarthy wants to finish this one by submission but Mallone is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from McCarthy.

McCarthy is standing up, even though he is in mount.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mallone shoots in and drives through. McCarthy sprawls well.
Mallone staying out of range there.
McCarthy shoots for a takedown but Mallone saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David McCarthy dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Mallone on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
McCarthy shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mallone as he jumps to the side.
Mallone swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
McCarthy fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
McCarthy misses with a takedown attempt - Mallone sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jason Mallone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David McCarthy.

and McCarthy takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The fight stays on the outside here - McCarthy looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mallone pushes McCarthy off looking to stand but McCarthy dives back in and keeps control.

McCarthy is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

McCarthy seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Mallone is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

After the fight, David McCarthy was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
