Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Conor Larkin (ranked 710 p4p, 89 weight class) and Ryan Rodriguez (ranked 1459 p4p, 173 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Conor Larkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ryan Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Larkin's corner calls for a 1-2. Larkin obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Rodriguez looks to throw a body kick

and Larkin counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Larkin wants to pass the guard but Rodriguez is keeping the position.
Larkin works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Larkin looking for a submission but Rodriguez manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Larkin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Larkin advances to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Larkin throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Rodriguez is trying to get back to half guard.

Larkin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rodriguez has escaped the position, nice work there.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Larkin is pressing down on Rodriguez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Larkin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rodriguez stands and throws Larkin's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Rodriguez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Larkin knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Larkin tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rodriguez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Rodriguez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Larkin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rodriguez has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Larkin tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Larkin regains half guard.
Larkin tries to get to full guard but Rodriguez has control of the leg.
Larkin preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Larkin is staying active underneath Rodriguez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Larkin is pressing down on Rodriguez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Larkin is looking for a triangle here but Rodriguez uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Larkin is not content to let Rodriguez control the position.

You can see the frustration on Larkin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Rodriguez decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Rodriguez blocks a jab.
Nice straight punches there by Larkin. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Larkin.
Rodriguez scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Rodriguez displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Larkin throws out the jab.

Rodriguez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Larkin throws a lazy uppercut
and Rodriguez counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Larkin lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Larkin looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rodriguez moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Larkin tries a low kick but Rodriguez avoids it.
Larkin is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Larkin throws a jab when Rodriguez was well out of range.
Larkin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rodriguez misses the shot to the body.
Larkin swings widly with a right hand
and Rodriguez counters with a nice low kick that buckles Larkin's knee momentarily.

Larkin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rodriguez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Larkin advances to full mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rodriguez is wriggling around trying to escape.
Larkin looking to finish Rodriguez with some ground and pound. This is bad for Rodriguez!

That's eight minutes gone in the round.
Rodriguez can't escape the position.
Rodriguez has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Larkin lands a big shot there that rocks Rodriguez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Rodriguez is trying to escape the mount.
Larkin putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Rodriguez tries to hold on but Larkin pushes him away.
Rodriguez is looking to improve his position but Larkin isn't that keen on the idea.
Rodriguez sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Larkin moves nicely into side control.
Rodriguez trying to remain calm as Larkin controls from the top position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Rodriguez is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Larkin off and has taken his back!
Larkin manages to reverse the position and now he's in Rodriguez's guard. Nice work there by Larkin.
Rodriguez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Larkin manages to get himself to full guard.


Larkin has his feet on Rodriguez's thighs here. He's pushed Rodriguez off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Rodriguez screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

A relieved looking Conor Larkin thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
